I had one during orientation, the drive test wasn't bad, but if you can't back a truck you're not gonna pass the test. They give you plenty of chances to pull up to make sure you get it in there. Also, I highly suggest you Get Out And Look. I will look good if you do that at least once. I don't know about the solo out test.

For myself I would never make it through the plains states in a 60 mph truck. I would fall asleep just due to the sheer boredom of watching the grass grow before my eyes as I crawled through a state like NE or WY.

Driving for May takes more then putting up with 60 mph trucks. They take a 450 ISX and cut it back to 385. Then they won't let you take it past 1400 rpm's. Thats right, the QuallComm logs everytime you go over 1400 and if you do it to much (like more then 1 or 2 times) you get a "talking to" about proper shifting. If you still take it over 1400 then you get writen up. Still doing it and lose your job.
You cralw up hills at 15mph and go down hills 2 gears less then you should.

As if there isn't enough reason to stay away from May here's there latest trick. They will tell you when the road is to bad to run on. thats right foks. Some yahoo in HQ in Brooks Or will tell you when the road is to bad to run on and that ALL May drivers on that road MUST shut down. He may be 2000 miles away in a nice warm office but he knows when the road you are on is to bad to drive on.:smt101
And yes they meen ALL drivers. Dosen't matter how much driving exp. you have or if your an O/O if you move after they shut it down. Your fired.cpassey Thanks this. -
They do not tell you to shut down and not move or be fired less alone they can not tell the o/o anything they own their trucks if they want to drive that truck they can drive it. -
Well, where to start..? I am still a pending "newbie driver" got my CDL weekend before Thanksgiving. Now going into January still have not officially signed on with a company even though I am scheduled with Swift orientation for next week.. Had my heart set on May from the get go. My job placement lady at the school I attended managed to sell the Swift pitch during my training and talked me into. Brought the rep and everything.. So I changed my mind. Personally, since then I have had my doubts and a lot of time to think and research on the matter. And this site is chalk full of information and nasty opinions towards Swift... And there's plenty. In the end I know what my heart is set on just need some sound advice from anyone who's "been there, done that" to help settle my doubts. May is still an option and before I make the giant leap into the world of the trucking industry some insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Swift is just as good as any company to srart out with. You might even like driving for them. I know some swifties that love working there and some hate working there.
The same goes for May.
This forum is a great source of info. There are possitive and negative threads on both companies... -
Every company I have worked at had x Swift drivers and to a man no matter how bad it was at there current company, it was better then there time at Swift.
You will talk to x Swift drivers at May. How many x May drivers do you think work for Swift? Well there you have it. Even though May is average at best. It is still a better chance at success then Swift.
