ok- why couldn't I make that run and deliver at 05:00- legally?
I was 300 miles away from the shipper to begin with. That adds a minimum of 6 hours to the run. It's 800 miles from Sacramento to Spokane.. so, yeah, if I can average 50mph, that stretch is 16 hours. 16 plus 6 is 22.
Add in 2 10 hour breaks.. that's 42..
Even assuming I don't make any stops at all, I cannot possibly get to Spokane on time.
Oh - and for the record, average mph for the entire 1100 trip was 48 - that includes the 300 miles I ran empty. That's close to 23 hours drive time.
So, yeah, You ran that load just fine even a year ago. From where I was and running legally in my truck (log as it happens, not based on some mythical "should be"), you wouldn't do it today, either. And I'm not wedded to the speed limit.
In any event, my complaint is not that the delivery got rescheduled, but that they waited until I was almost here to tell me.
Oh - I missed who asked... I'm 4230.. it's an '05 379 Pete. Aside from the issues I have on hills (which are attributed to the 450HP under the hood and to having the governor turned down to 60), I rather like it. It's big enough inside for me, and small enough that I can reach anything I need from my driver's seat. The ride is better than the 387, too. -
I see on the May Trucking web site that they state that their drivers average 11,000 miles a month. Is this true for drivers in the western region.
-
depends on how you run if you play with the comic book a little you probaly will make 11k miles per month.
I was running aprox 4,000-6,000 a week with my trainer and we did not run too hard but we were also was all over the us.
Alot of the other drivers that I talked to said that they had plenty of miles even on the 11 western but they were mostly short runs. -
Are the runs mostly drop and hook or some LTL.
-
some runs are drop n hook and some you will be there while it is unloaded or loaded. There may be mutiple stops on one trailer.
-
Thanks lurchings. Is the sleeper a 63in or 70in?
Do you like these multi stops or regular one stops?
Hunter -
my fuel mileage has not been so good lately, weather has caused me to idle some.
how are you other May drivers doing with your mpg / how are you liking the turn down in speed ?
for anyone one's info, the route from ft. collins to laramie is considerbly shorter than taking I-25 north to cheyenne then west.
i have gone both ways and check the mileage/time. -
I have never had the multi stop all of mine was unloaded at one place but they tell you that it can happen.
Currently not with them now but will be trying to get back with them in 2009.
I want to keep my current job since I only worked for May from july 07- oct 07 so I will be at one place for over 1 year I do not want them to think that i am a job hopper. May was my only short term employment.
I am working now at a local busniess for now making deliveries non cdl postion. Also I did have a job at one of my previous jobs before truck driving for a while untill they got tired of my complaining and my additude.
I had a bad additude because I signed a contract to work for them and due to good relations in the past of being paid for the work that I did I trusted that they would pay me good again.
Once I signed the contract with them they kept adding and adding more work to my job but with no extra pay so I kept complaining and they got tired of it an termanated my contract with them.
Last time before truck driving when they would add more work they would pay more money they must of thought I was desperate for money and they could treat me like crap and I would take it wrong.
I have been out of the truck driving since I quit May so I hope that will not cause me problems.
I am currently fighting a ticket for fail to stop at a stop sign. Cop says I ran it I told him he must be mistaken I did stop.
Long story short when he wrote the ticket he made a few errors on the ticket put that I had a class R license, wrong date of birth, did not properly fill in the court date.
Let see who the judge belives now with all of those errors on the ticket. -
In any event, my complaint is not that the delivery got rescheduled, but that they waited until I was almost here to tell me.
They may not have known till you were almost there. But what would it matter? I already told the people asking about May that if you want to run by the book at May, you will have loads rescheduled because they take loads from other carriers that can't cover them because they pay more.
I have never had the multi stop all of mine was unloaded at one place but they tell you that it can happen.
Yep you were lucky.
Bi-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot, Costco, Jeld Win, Winco, are some of the multi stop loads I had for them in my 6 months with May. Pure time wasters the way they scheduled them also. Won't have to worry about Jeld Win anymore because they gave Mays work to Knight and kicked May to the curb.
When you add those loads to the overnight delivery's to all the Grocery whses, they were impossible for me to drive legally at and get the miles.
The dry side had so many short runs up in the NW that I thought I was a local P&D driver when I went up there.
I see on the May Trucking web site that they state that their drivers average 11,000 miles a month. Is this true for drivers in the western region.
They do not average those kind of miles in the West 11 fleet, but I am sure they have drivers that get those kind of miles. I did
but not legally.
Their preplns were good but when you do 10 loads in 1 week under 200 miles it is kind of hard to average 11k a month. Many drivers for May do between 1800-2500 a week on the dry side because they just don't have the freight to keep you running 7 days a week while you are on the road, unless you are a go to driver that does not complain about time on a loads you will not get a 11k per month average because you will be sitting to much.
Heck I had to run JIT refer frt to keep my miles up because the dry side had nothing every time I got over to I-15.
Mays a good place for a single guy with nothing better to do then to drive around and P&D some freight but not a career carrier for a serious OTR driver in my book. They just run you to erratically if you want to drive legal.
