    Shoemaker's?!
    No kiddin'!
    Man-0-Man, I've spent many a night at Shoemaker's.
    I-80, exit 395 (N/W 48th street & O street, right?)
It was a Texaco back then.
Now that Chevron bought out Texaco I don't know what brand it is.
Is the parking area still a tad hilly?

Back in the day, their restaurant was quite good. Is it still?
Also, I always got top notch truck washes there.

    Good ol' Lincoln!
    A college town.

BTW, have they finished work on State Highway 2 betwixt Nebraska City and Lincoln yet? I ran that road when it was still just a 2-lane through farm country, and they were just beginning to improve it. That was my short cut off I-29 or I-80 when coming out of or going to Kansas City, MO.
Ahhhhhh, ........ those were the daze.

If you get into Missouri, near St Joseph, check to see if Farrah's Faucett Truck Stop is still there.
    (I-29 -- exit 35)
The city is Faucett and the truck stop owner's are the Farrah's. Clever name, no?
Food was pretty good in their restaurant too.
Also, it's real near the Jessie James homestead.

When you go through Council Bluffs, Iowa, check out the dog racing track on the north side of I-80. I delivered Iowa's first gaming machines (slot machines) there, and that's where I met that foxy U.S. Marshal I wrote about.
There's a truck stop (used to be a Sapp Bros. I-29/I-80, exit 1-B, 24th street) where you can see and hear the dog racing track. Might be an interesting side adventure if they're running.

    You take care Lurch!
    See ya on the flip-flop.
    10-4? :biggrin_25519:

I applied to May Trucking but was told there don't hire in my area (50 miles off I-80 in NE). That's too bad, they look like a good company to work for. Loooks like it's Werner for me (at least to start with)

Good Luck to you! Hope you can get on with them!

Once you get a driver manager ask if you can park at a local truck stop in your area.

I heard no taking trucks home when I was talking to the recuriter but once I got a driver manager I told her there was no way I would be parking at a drop yard that was 50-55 miles away from me.
We agreed that I would park at the local truck stop does not mean that it was allways parked there.

I do not know if your issue was a dead battery or not but here is a great tip.

I was given some great advice by my trainer when I was at May he told me to run it on continuous from time to time for about 4 hours to keep the battery charged.

I did that every time I got a different trailer just to keep me from having a dead battery.

You have to remeber alot of starts of the reefer when it is hot out with short run cycles will kill the battery quick.

    Lurchgs and AfterShock Thank this.

Read between the lines. Of course they hire where the poster lives but maybe not around the time they called

Much more simple to just say "we don't hire in your area" and be done to move on to the next call.

May is not a large carrier. Living on I-5 or I-15 will get you hire year around but other areas may not.

BIGBLUE.....if you insist on trashing May why dont you post your own thread under companies you dont like.

I have posted both positive a negative observations on May trucking. And as a former driver for May who left on good terms with the company I am neither frustrated nor do I harbor bad will toward them. My observations are my experiences and others who I keep in touch with even after leaving.
There are plenty of threads on May. No need to start a new one. It is up to you the reader to choose to heed or not heed my observations which are factual.

I will repeat here that most people that don't like a Company they work for just were not a fit for that Company.

Your right I was not fit to work at May Trucking, thats why I left.

I like to drive good well maintained equipment that is kept on the highway if I am getting paid by the mile. Not sit in yards or terminals waiting for that 3 day 500 mile run that was loaded in a 12 year old rusted out trailer.

If telling the truth about a company I worked for is "trashing them" to you? tough. I tells it like I lived it. And I will do the same about any company I worked for. May, like I have said before, is only a good company for newbies for the most part who do not know any better.

If you are a experienced driver serious about making high dollars on the road, May is not it. Don't believe me sign on and post your W-2 after a year so I can tell you I told you so.:biggrin_25525:

I run for Transport America. Good company with GREAT training for newbies. Also, check into Crete. They are based in Nebraska.
