I have a friend who works for swift the president of swift sends a message via qualcom that he wants the drivers to be comfortable and idle if they need too, there is no limit described, they also are allowed to run if its 75 out! I personally do not think the person who came up with these numbers has ever been out in the summer, just two trucks idling next to you and a reefer will crank up the heat! I am making my own idle log detailing everything!

Remember, at May, if you go over the limit on idle that you will be
charged for it, if you have not gotten the OK from your DM. I,
too have friends that work for Swift and have gotten called on the carpet for too high of an idle percentage by their DM. Swift
( Jerry Moyes) may say one thing, but dispatch says something different. Plus alot of states have an idle time limit( like CA )
and enforce it willfully. It a revenue generator for them.
Awhile back, a driver was video taping a CARB officer writing him an idle ticket in a T/S in Barstow in July for going 8 minutes over the
5 minute limit and the officer sat there and idled his patrol car the whole time ( approx 15 minutes ). Be sure you C.Y.A.

That makes sense. I ran a small business and pennies add up so I've got to imagin a 1000 trucks pennies add up really fast. I spoke to a May driver at my school and he said you'll hear a lot of people complain but in the end you can manage it.

Dumb question.... Does sitting in a traffic jam or a stop light count for idle time?

If you can watch your qcomm the next time you do that and
you will see the answer is YES.....any time the truck is running
and NOT rolling, your idle percent goes up. And alot faster than it comes down....MORAL: try not to idle if you can and save it for when you need it...

There are alot of factors many out of your control, traffic, coupling raising airbags, getting your batteries charged after the inverter used alot of voltage. Not in your favor for sure. At least in the summer months. Thank god its been nice and cooler than normal here in GA. 50-60's is very comfy here!
