Like most of you I do a lot of driving all over the country and I see a lot of closed off exits where they are installing roundabouts. I personally hate those things but it seems like the majority of construction is roundabout installation rather than re-paving or fixing bridges or anything else that we actually need. Does anyone know why they seem to have unlimited amounts of money to install these abominations and why that has become the priority? What am I missing here?
Maybe someone knows the answer.

I think they got the idea from Mexico.
We're building a lot of stupid roads and intersections that came from the south.D.Tibbitt and singlescrewshaker Thank this. -
Cant remember the exit, but I popped into a TA in North GA off I75 that had some shiny new roundabouts. Under sized as well. Used every inch of it available & still my spread climbed the inside curb..
In my neck of the woods, the 3 exits to the south of the home 20 just got cloverleaf's put in. What a waste of money they are too. That's FL i75 exits 220, 217, & 213..MACK E-6, Midnightrider909, InTooDeep and 4 others Thank this. -
I heard once they were to keep the semi's out.
Don't know how true that was. But I don't think it's working.singlescrewshaker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
It's for our "safety"....
The theory is there may be more accidents because of the confusion about round-about-right-of-way, but the accidents will be less severe compared to stop sign, or stop light violation types of accidents.
I know....I know.....safety engineers and their "theories".magoo68, stillwurkin, brian991219 and 3 others Thank this. -

What's not to like in a big truck when there is a good sign instead of a stop sign?
Not that they are the cat's meow. Someone people still think it's ok to pass a truck in a roundabout.
Big trucks should usually take the left lane in a dual lane roundabout as they have an apron in the middle to drag the trailer over eliminating the need to send wide into the other lane to negotiate the roundabout. And even if youndid swing wide in a roundabout it isn't legal to pass in a roundabout so they shouldn't be in the blind spot anyway. Well, I know that's not how things are going to happen in the real world.
Just take the left/inside lane.ncdriver1, gentleroger, Sirscrapntruckalot and 1 other person Thank this.
