How do you determine when you "need " the CB ? If you keep it off until you come to a backup you'll find out you could have taken an alternate route an exit or two back and saved a lot of time . Keep your CB off and you'll find yourself in a lane stopped because it's closed or blocked while drivers that had their CB on are passing you in another lane because they made the lane change a mile back . You never know when there will be helpful info on the CB .

Had it on for about 30 miles. Only heard one comment about the stopped traffic ahead, one mile ahead of it. Heard a bunch of BS though. Backup was 3 hours long.

Since I drive local now, when I need traffic info that is what the radio is for. I rarely use the CB, unless there is unusual traffic problems. But I know all the alternate routs and use them when needed..

You're right . I depend on FM traffic reports when I can get them . Much more reliable than the CB .

It has nothing to do with the money collected from the school. They actually do not make much of a profit on the tuition. When you factor in what they pay to get them to the school, house them for three weeks,(hotels are not free) paying the instructors and maintaining equipment, there is not much profit left.
The reason they rather hire from there schools is because the students have not been corrupted by the industry, they can train them by their standards versus an experienced driver coming in with bad habits and a chip on their shoulder. A student is more likely to stay with them, then the experienced driver.

I keep the cb on but turned way down most of the time. I can give you an example why. Yesterday in Murfreesboro Tn. There was a very small thunderstorm coming through. Of course as a driver on the road you cant really tell how big or small it is. It looked ugly. I turned up the CB and four or five truckers were talking about a tornado just went through Nashville injuring 320 people on the 440/24 split. Oh no I thought thats where I have to go. So i turned on 107.5 the river a local Nashville station (since I live in middle TN I know his to be a reliable source to get traffic reports every 15-20 mins.) So, no news on the radio, I think hmm... then the other fools on the CB are corroberating the story, "you should listen to your news" so I called my wife. She gets on the computer and there is nothing. About thirty mins later I get to the 440/24 and there is nothing.
So to answert the original question when do you need to use the CB it is for me at least only when the shipper says turn your CB to such and such station we'll call you when we want you in a door.

I was told also that the government gives companies a certain amount of money for each student they graduate and hire from these schools. Does anyone know if this is true?:biggrin_2559:

They get tax benefits for re-training somebody into a new field.

As for Nana..her husband (Grand-dad) is her Mentor, they are running out here in the west (CA,OR,WA) so far and if you want to see her posts what she is doing...click on her name in any thread, then view profile, then click statistics, scroll down to read all posts, click on that and then her posts will come in a page and you can see what she is doing...as usuall her posts are great.
