Don’t want to sound like a doofus, but how do you do a ‘cylinder cut out’ on a Mercedes Benz? I am not a certified mechanic, but not afraid of a wrench or getting my hands dirty.

Its got to be done with a laptop on these electronic engines. Software overrides the ECM and disables fuel injection on the selected cylinder.

The 1693 I had even idled up ran with a whisp of white coming out of it. Get up in the morning and find streaks of fuel down the back of the stacks. Any of the static engines would slobber like that, especially the pre-cups.

I've got a couple videos of my 3406 PCTA being cold started. You'd swear the head gasket was gushing coolant into the cylinders the way she rolled out the white smoke.

I had the one 1693. A direct 3406A and 2 3408s. The whole yard would go out of sight when you started any of them and anyone that was there reeked of fuel for the rest of the day. Pretty nasty to drive until you had them warmed up good too. Your pre-cup should be rank for the first few miles.

That got me thinking. Sometimes I miss those old engines and sometimes not. That 1693 would pull like a mf, but you’d wear the shift knobs right off it trying to stop it melting the turbo off. The V8s weren’t really any better loaded to our weights. The 3406B was about as perfect a truck engine you’re ever going to get though. Those I miss all the time.

I just missed the era where mechanical engines ruled.

Is this something that can accomplished with an iPad? Are the programs available for older iPads? Or laptop only?

The 1693TA in my old truck would also issue a cloud of white smoke when it was first started up. It seemed the colder the temperature, the whiter the smoke. Once it warmed up, it would revert to black smoke. It never had white smoke running down the highway.
