    what does it involve?

I am an O/O currently leased on and do not wish to part ways with my company; however I am able to find my own freight at will, still I'm unable to access load boards given I do not have my own *Numbers and I am not able to use my company's for this or any purpose more than to haul for them.
    My question is as follows
can I get my MC and USDOT while I still haul under their signs ?
I believe this would give me an advantage over other O/O's at my company so that I could get on load boards and also would give "my company" time (most brokers don't count your company if its not at least 1 year old)
how much can it cost me to get them?
do I have to join the DRUG RANDOM TESTING?

    thank you for your comments.

i beleive that EVERYONE has to be in a pool. others have talked on here about having a center set up.

i beleive you can obtain your authority, no matter who your working for. but i don't think it's really any good without your own insurance. and that price might be pretty high considering your only want your own authority on a part time basis. (somewhat speaking).

i don't think you'd be able to haul loads under your own authority while your insured and plated under someone else's authority

i've thought about what your talking about. but the cost of maintaining insurance is pretty steep. if it weren't for insurance, there's probably a lot of truckers that would do something like that. or something along those lines. just to get that 1 year past.

i've talked to a few brokers that say they have no problem with brand new authority. but they do run some type of check. they don't want to load someone who consistently advances the loads. AND, is always late for whatever reason. or takes the money and runs.

i don't know how they do a check on you though.

others will have other insights. but i think the sticky points are going to be your own insurance and hauling your own loads under someone else's authority.

You can't display two authorities on 1 truck and run under both. Those days are long gone. You can get the authority to have but can't use it to run with. Unless, you get both on magnets and use one of them this load and the other for a back haul.

that's not the point of my Thread, but thank you Kw550Cat.
my thread is not to mislead or try to do both businesses, it is to gain an advantage over other O/O's in my company. we are 100% O/Os, so first come first served. then there are times when I'm sitting in line and freight is low. Being able to find freight myself gives me the advantage to not have to wait on dispatch to get every one loaded before they get to me.
I am not encouraging and do not condone doing anything illegal nor stepping on anybody's shoes; it's plain and simple:

I would like to get my numbers to:
    join load boards.
    age my own numbers.

if insurance is required to be able to request any of these two, then I'm won't be able to do it. that's the reason for this thread, to get my feet wet and get to know a bit more of this. thank you.

Yes you can do that. That is fine and insurance may not be needed. That is a perfectly fine thing to do and a smart idea.

I'll give my take on this as I owned my own authority once up on a time. However, its been a while, so I cant be certain as how the rules have change. Hopefully someone else will clarify.

As KW said, you cant run under two authorities. My understanding is, you cant have two authorities & change the signs out between each load. You gotta run under one or the other.

Now to address your last post. If you get your own authority, It gives you the legal ability to find & haul your own loads (ie an load board). You can search the load boards, find loads & haul them. However, you wont be able to continue to be leased to your current company. You will have to drop that lease & contract each load (just like a load board) with the person your now leased to for each load. However, just like any other company, you gotta get those loads. Now that your not leased to him, he can find other O/O's also. In other words your not guaranteed any loads from him any more... now or next week.. or next month... or next year. You're on your own now with your own authority.

And yes, in order to have your own authority, you have to have insurance on your authority. As soon as your insurance expires, you can't use your authority.

Hope this helps & hope its all accurate.

In order to get active authority, you will have to post active insurance with the FMCSA. I know, I just got my authority activated.

The $ it would take to do that would severly offset your benefit, I dont see how it can be practical.
Will your company not let you use the load boards with their info?

I have not asked, I feel as if by asking would be something like asking your best pal if you can come chill with his wife for coffee and watch the soap opera together...lol
