    Hi,

Does anyone know what kind of freight Mc Elroy hauls and what states they operate in? One gentleman on here said I could expect hauling a lot of loads from Lowes. On their website they also claim 75% is pre tarped.

    Thanks,
    B

That would be correct. I don't work for them but work along side them and they do haul ALOT of lowes. And most of their loads a tarpped with big ole heavy tarps.

Others may disagree (& that's OK -- that's partly why forums exist) -- but personally, I think right now McElroy is easily one of the better flatbed carriers to join in the southeast.

    Why?

They are pretty serious about getting you home on weekends.

Also -- if many of your deliveries/stops are to Lowe's stores -- that (in many cases) puts you within walking distance of some pretty good restaurants -- or a Walmart (for groceries/food) -- or both.

Lastly, I would think Lowe's probably will allow overnite parking for you -- most of their parking lots seldom (if ever) totally fill up.

All this of course is much more attractive (to me, anyway) than the typical truck stop.

The reasons I'm not driving for them? I'm well past age 45. Plus -- usually there's nobody else there to break your fall if you lose your balance up on the trailer. :(

The negative side of Lowes deliveries and shorthaul/regional-home weekend driving:

Run, run and run. 450 to 550+ daily runs and parking at Lowes doesn't leave a lot of time for showers. Yes, there are a lot of nearby fast food and shopping. And Lowes ain't known for timely loading, so you'll waste a lot of time waiting on a load you got to finish up. And HEAVY. Like alot heavy. I've loaded out of Lowes DC 81-82 and then have to set all night to get it right the next morning.

As far as working for McElroy, I can't say. I run out of a Lowes DC occasionally so I load with them drivers. They seem happy. None are complaining. Out Loud, any how.

I was gonna say something about the “falling” part for myself, but I’m not going to speak that into existence haha I’ve been up higher than the truck before and I got up there by ratcheting down a 2 inch strap, couple pieces of wood and my own two hands… don’t much care for the wind anymore

Short hauls is about the only thing I don’t like about it; hell I wasn’t even aware it was a regional gig (desperate for any company) and I was looking forward to going out west again. Welp on the bright side I’ll get to blow my paycheck at Lowes that’s conveniently nearby and not have to go to…. Jersey 0:

Looks like they pay a flat rate for their short haul. They state drivers are averaging 0.80/mile on all miles in their regional fleet. Not bad for just stick n brick.

I was making 30 at my last company and when I wasn’t getting f’ed over on short runs (not getting paid for the endless amount of wasted time) it wasn’t THAT terrible, could be wrong by saying this, but I’m sure they pay you that much because your destination isn’t over 1000 miles away (guessing you should deliver one load a day, short run) and there’s a lot more time spent at the shipper and consignee instead of driving many miles. I’m unsure if they pay for waiting around, or if they only pay for your driving time.

I talked to them a while back. The owner is a seventh day Adventist or something like that so you won’t work on the lords day. Ever. You will be home on the weekends or resetting. You won’t be allowed to work that day.

seemed legit just was less money than I would have taken to mess with tarps even if it was just pulling them off and rolling them up.

seemed like a very nice company.
