Does anyone have experience with McLane in Fredericksburg or Manassas, VA? I applied to both, but from what I've heard...the Manassas location would probably be easier for me to get into (new driver).

Sysco drivers don't earn more than Mclane drivers. A grade 4 Mclane foodservice driver averages over 35dls an hr, we have guys in Denver(Aurora) averaging over 40 bucks an hour. These guys sling cases like donuts. These drivers make over $2000.00 a week. Also, Sysco cases are a cluster ######, you have to dig to find a missing case. At Mclane, our stuff is palletized and shrink wrapped, no having to dig for missing cases. We also have scanners=no having to read bills of lading. As for case count, Mclane foodservices averages between 1100 and 1300 cases per truck. If you're not fast, but you always show up on time and are reliable, they'll reduce your case count down to 900 to 1000 cases=$1500+ for a 4 day work week. This work is NOT for everybody, it requires mental and physical stamina, once you get used to it...it's gravy!! 8)

I wouldn't mind doing this job but #### does that metal ramp scare me! I don't know how you guys go up and down it in the rain and winter in the snow and ice. I know it has to be slippery.

It's not the weather thats the scary part, its the idiots around you. Was once delivering at a 7/11 when some lady decided to park next to us, as I'm coming down the ramp with about 10; 24 packs of water she clips the ramp causing me to almost fall on top of her windshield with hand truck and all. Then she has the cojones to get pissed at us for taking up parking and causing her to hit us. Oh and the sketchy folks around at that time of night lol. Like the weirdos who randomly go into the trailer while your working to ask for some money or a ride down the street.

I'll confirm that mclane pays better than Sysco for the drivers. At my warehouse avg route pays 250-300$ work 4-5days a wk I have a few buddy's who work for mclane foodservice side making 100-110k yr working 4 days a wk. now in the warehouse sysco pays way better. That's where I work have had numerous of guys come from mclane n say they top out at $20hr and can only work 40hrs a wk but say it's easier over there also. But just to show diff we top at $38hr

A positive attitude towards physical work goes along way to being happy at a job. You'll fit in at food service. Good money. I came off long haul after 5 yrs and decided I needed a physical trucking job at 35. Came into foodservice with a positive attitude and honestly it worked out for me. I liked my Foodservice gig. Would still be there if I didn't screw up. But that 1 yr wasn't bad at all. I'd still be there but oh well got a good job now.

I'm 45 and Delivery milk to Walmart and the big stores take 2 hours. Down stack milk. Well Sinton/Borden is laying everyone off so I'll soon be out of a Job. Im debating on Mclane out of Longmont or MBM out of Aurora CO. I live in the springs the other day I was talking to a McLane driver/Trainee and he said he make 1,200 a week. I was Kinda of disappointed Because drivers were telling me they make 70-100k delivery candy and cigs. Ive been grossing over 1,500 with sinton but Ive been killing it on overtime. If anybody from Longmont can explain the extra board thing please do! Last day at Sinton is in May.

There's 2 different Mclanes. Longmont I heard is like the traditional foodservice they run solo and delivery around the city in a day cab. Probably the one you ran into. The other Mclane is in Aurora Co. They run sleeper teams doing 24hr routes. My buddy worked for them and he was making serious money. He did candy loads but it was once in awhile cause it involved no physical labor so I'm sure the senior drivers bid on those runs. Low man doesn't get anything easy. MBM is always hiring and makes good money. If you go to the LTL section there's a person on here by the name of Lonecowboy he works for MBM I think he's in the area too. Also all the LTL's are hiring it's the busy season. Might want to check into those jobs too.
