I can tell you a lot about McLeod....spent a year with them.....I averaged around 1700-1800 miles with them, largely i think because i refused to roll illegally. They are supposed to be home 3 weekends out 1 weekend, however on the weekends you are out be prepared to sit for that whole weekend without layover pay. I had a FL Cascadia but was lucky, most of the equipment is pretty junky and almost all have apu's and a 3 minute idle kill. Their orientation classes consist usually of around 5-10 per week for a company of 300 drivers......quite a turnover. They also have a 'cutoff' on miles my dispatcher let it slip one time when i asked if i would make more miles by staying out every other weekend he said that 'you may but you'll probably hit the cutoff.' The majority of their own freight comes out of ADM & Tate and Lyle out of Decatur,IL almost all of their other freight outside of there and Chicago is brokered freight. Be also prepared for a lot of out of pocket expenses, they whipped the ez-pass out of the trucks just about a year ago. Be also prepared for how they treat their drivers compared to the office staff.such as lovely big picnics and cookouts compared to not even a cold sausage.
$20 for medical/dental is about right, but if you have any health issues at all it is not good coverage....70/30 and deductibles for even office visits. Oh and they also changed the insurance in november without telling any drivers, they also froze driver raises without telling anyone also. Check out my posts on that company! They almost got me stuck in Virginia on Christmas weekend. I don't know how they would run you coming from upstate NY, but I ran a lot of 200-300 mile runs with next day deliveries and a lot of IL-IN-MO (STL) -OH a lot of the time, oh and they have also shut off all Pilots in NY state and they pulled the Pilot points away from the drivers some time ago.
They do have some good points. Some of the drivers love it as they do in all companies. Also they dont force route you or tell you where to fuel...as long as it not in NY state or only a few stops in IL...and Pilot only....
These are my experiences only and just to help you along the way....if any drivers have any different experiences of McLeod then relate them here! I wish you luck in your search!
I am now at Crete and very happy!!
There are some good points -
its not sutch a bad place to work for a little slow out of the gate but will get you up to speed

A coworker of mine worked there and didn't have much bad to say about them, aside from their truck maintenance being somewhat shoddy at times.

I worked for McLeod Express for about 2yrs. I would not recommend them to anyone.. You have to sit a lot, they want you to run mostly IL. and they don't want you to run "illegal" but you better do it... No maintenance on equipt. And don't ask for a day off for any reason they will ask you to clean your truck out and leave it in Decatur, IL. and find your own way home. The turn over rate for drivers is over 95%. and they don't know why?? Talk about a disconnect.
My advice don't do it...

Just wondering if anyone has (or knows someone who has) worked for these guys. Any info is appreciated.

Thank you admin for moving me to this thread. Me and your search engine wasn't getting along. LOL Though, in the grand scheme of things, there are not a large number of posts. I'm concerned that they all say the same since 2008. Thanks for the advice. Will probably not be continuing the hiring process. Thanks again.
