Has anyone ever tried a meal replacement (shake, bar, whatever) while out on the road? What was your reason for trying it, and what was your experience with it?

A little background on the questions above: about a month ago, my wife got on board with a company who makes a meal replacement shake. I've taken protein shakes and the like before and they all tasted like straight up crap, so I was curious to try these. I tried it, liked it, and had one nearly every morning for breakfast (I rarely eat breakfast anyway) for a month. I wasn't exactly trying to lose weight (although I have been getting a bit of a gut in the last couple years); I was just having a shake for breakfast instead of, well, nothing.

After a month, my wife and I were talking and, out of curiosity, I decided to weigh myself. (Keep in mind I had not changed my diet or my exercise habits.) I had lost 10 lbs, from 175 to 165.

Back to the original questions up top. The reason I ask about this is that I am pretty stoked about how much better I feel when I'm drinking these shakes for breakfast, and about how much they have helped in other people's health/fitness/weightloss goals, and I was wondering this:

If this were made available to truckers (say, near a truckstop), what would convince you to buy it? The taste? The easy access (once you buy it, all you gotta do is have something to mix it up with -- instant breakfast/lunch/dinner/whatever 'on the go')? The price? The nutritional value? The extra energy?

I'm considering going out by the local truckstop(s) because, having been out on the road for a year or so myself, I know how frikkin difficult it is sometimes to get a healthy meal. I'm just curious to see what reaction I might get from folks on here (and so, to some degree, from folks out on the road).

I appreciate your time, gents (and ladies)!

Did I say something wrong? Or is this the reaction I was asking for?

Great idea ! generally people who skip breakfast (me) lose some weight if they start. Over the years i've seen fruit cups, sandwiches with whole grain bread and slimfast at truckstops, but if sales lag it goes away to make room for what does move. thats why you see deep fried everything at eye level, that's what moves.

You did nothing wrong just most are more interested in a good meal, I have never tried the drinks myself but do drink those vitamin drinks with some fiber added to them. Will have to try those you take about, I have to find some weight loss after I get back out next week.

I'm a big fitness guy and Breakfast is the most important meal of the day even if you just drink a Protein shake, if you wanna skip a meal skip dinner.

What brand is it ? i dislike most of the meal/slimfast type stuff. But i normally skip breakfast and would get in the habit of doing a shake much easier than solid food

Sounds like something I'd be interested in ! I was so healthy and active two years ago. I had a total hip replacement ( 47 years old ! ) last year and let myself get pretty lax in my recovery. Now I've about 20 lbs to lose to feel like my old self. Sounds simple but is proving to be so very difficult.:biggrin_25510:

I remember trying Power Bars. They came out the same way they came in.
If I was more motivated I'd buy a box of Carnation Instant Breakfast.

I don't know if I'll get in trouble with the Mods or not for talking about the brand and everything in here, so for right now (until I hear from one of them) send me a message if you would like some more info?

Cuzzin_it, if you normally skip breakfast anyway, this is frikkin perfect for you. That's how I am (skip breakfast 90% of the time), so now I just mix up a shake real quick (takes all of a minute).

Arizonasky1982, the simple part is the shake. The hard part is sticking with the challenge of meeting your goal.
