Thanks. Over inflating airbags as a last ditch option. Noted.

I have different levels on the trailer. Just not on the tractor (just a standard leveling valve).

I have no idea what a shim is. Will you explain this to me? I have heard people talk about shimming the Lift axle but not sure what they meant.

This is the bear claw thing that I was talking about. Anyone used this or seen it used?

That bear claw will likely last about 2 seconds in my opinion, but if they a cheap try a set out and see if it will work for you.

As mentioned above, throw chains on when having traction issues, and as you mentioned getting a different truck more suitable to run the work tou are doing, make sure to have open shoulder tires. They really make a big difference compared to what you have on.

A shim is a piece of steel used to take up loose areas at the neck and also some types of pin-on axles.
Shims are used in pairs and usually carried in different thicknesses.

They aren't cheap. So I rather invest in a pair of open shoulder tires. Trying my hardest not to modify this truck to much. Rather save that money for the down payment of the next truck.

every trailer is different, set the neck down and measure the gap about 2 inches in from the back.
That will tell you the maximum thickness of your shims, then get some pieces of steel plate in smaller thicknesses so you can shim as needed.
If your pin-on axle has top slop you can do the same, I found a welder that built me some shims that started with a 3X3X1/2 to set in the gap with a drop in shim set. shim set2.png

I will look into this. I'm stuck pretty bad today. I had to tow my truck because my radiator blew up. So now I'm throwing more money at a truck that no longer fits the type of trailer I'm hauling. Man this is a tough day. And yes I will be getting royally screwed on pricing with the only repair option available today: Loves at the Oklahoma Texas border. Grateful but ####.
