I thought the question was that they did not have a cdl and wondered if they needed a medical card if they drive within 150 miles of their farm.
If they give the state a link can be provided. I would almost say they do not, but I like to verify the facts and provide the link to support it.

Under the new "Self Certifying" law if you don't drive out of state you don't need a Medical Card regardless of what you haul, even if its more than 100 miles.

A local dump truck owner/driver was pulled over by a state dot officer and found with an expired medical card. He was advised that he had to have a valid one in possession on the next stop he made or the truck would be impounded.
He never leaves the state or 50 miles from home. -

- Now as far as a nonCDL vehicle goes any commercial vehicle 10,001 lbs. or more GVWR is a CMV and requires a medical card .

- I noted in another thread Chrysler now has the GVWR of the RAM 3500 now at 10,001 lbs. That one extra pound makes the CMV's requiring a DOT number , medical card , etc.

In Iowa, I believe "field to farm" is the only 'exemption' on either and/or both. But if you are hauling to an elevator or plant...you best have both.
