Am really hoping for a laser type procedure if there is one.
Mine is the corotted(spelled kind of like it sounds) in my neck. It supplies the blood and oxygen to the brain..This type of blockage can bring on a stroke. I have had one major episode of confusion and some trouble getting the words out I want to use. This thread is a perfect example..I could NOT come up with "med card". Thus, physical disqualification worked![]()

Had a buddy that had chest pains while driving his truck in L.A., pulled over, called 911, went to the hospital and had a double bypass the next day. After recuperating, he was certified good to go. I believe it was a 1 year certificate.

My father had 3 heart-attacks over the years. He underwent a quadruple bypass. He was able to continue driving (this was in 1984 or 85 though). Thankfully he was under the truck trying to stop a fuel leak when his fourth heart attack hit in 1998.
On the one arm note:
There's a guy around my neck of the woods whose right arm is wooden, he shifts and steers with his left arm (very quickly i hope
). I believe that he's restricted to in-state hauling. He's gotta be in his 80's, he lost the arm in a farming accident when he was young, so maybe there's a grandfather clause/exemption.
The funny part about this guy is he has a strong dislike for automatics, even his pickup is a standard shift.
If you end up in college, have fun with the FAFSA, that form is just a joy to fill out every year. You get to learn what Uncle Sam says you can afford and how much money is too much. The way the economy is right now, it's a good time to be in school, if you can afford it.Curious1 Thanks this. -
Step Father had triple bypass & passed his required test for medical card less than 10 months after his surgery. He is 67 years old now had bypass when 64 & still driving weekly. Good luck with your recovery.

I am no expert, but have seen may drivers out for many issues, once a doc signs off, a-ok, pass another physical, back in the saddle again. Only major disqualifier that seems to be big is diabetes. But know folks that control it with excercise and diet and do fine. Also have heard of folks who frankly just do not divulge past medical history.

That's a hard one for me to believe. I've always been told you have to have the ability to grasp the steering wheel or you can not drive. I know this because a driver was burned real bad on his hand and arm back in the 60's to where his fingers curled up and interfered with holding the steering wheel. He had the doctors cut the little finger and ring finger off so he could grasp the wheel. This driver is well known throughout the company and retired a few years ago and is living in AZ.

I don't know what to tell you. He does it, believe it or not.
-
The issue is does he do it legal or not.
-
Fair enough. There is definitely that possibility. I don't know the man very well, he's an acquaintance of a few of my relatives. I'm not the sort to come out and ask someone if they're breaking the law.
-
Well it's very simple. If he can not hold or grasp the wheel then he needs to have a device put on so he can. Otherwise, he's not legal.
