    You took their truck to the home terminal. You weren't under a load or dispatch when you quit. I don't see the need for worry here.

    Reading between the lines - maintenance/hometime account - you were teamed with a lease operator. As such he was your employer, not the company.

    So you were never an employee of the company. That's why they can't pay you. Also they can't put an abandonment on your DAC since you weren't working for them. Heck, you actually recovered their truck for them by taking it back to the terminal.
