@Simple Man1963 You need to sit down and write out a resume. Get as much detail as possible. The point is you are also accounting for time. If you have a gap then simply state what you were doing. I had a brief gap in my history while taking care of my mom. It is true that some carriers take 391.21 and 383.35 way more tightly than the FMCSA requires. If you understood as @brian991219 and I how hard the FMCSA can be during an audit of the carrier driver qualification files it's understandable. Still, get what information you can all in one place. Keep pounding the pavement EVEN if you have to work local for a while hauling rubberized dog(redacted) you are building a work history.

I'm surprised I had to go the 2nd page to find this comment.

I know we are not allowed to comment on spelling errors but good Lord people break it into paragraphs, I didn't even attempt to read that wall of text lol.

That post is longer than The Magna Carte. All you need to do is read a few of Chinatown's replies to figure it out.

Did he have to hit the caps lock every time he typed a new word? They ALL start with a capital letter.

I can only offer my story of last week. I've driven for Knight many times in the past, usually for only 4 months and then I take 4 to 7 months off to live over seas and vacation. They never seemed to have a problem with this, but just last week, they decided that they didn't want to rehire me. I have no tickets, accidents or anything bad linked to my CDL. The only thing they told me was the safety dept. has "elected to pass on my application", even though the people I used to work for, the DDM, DM, terminal manager, all wanted me back, as I'm a productive driver who takes no home time.

The only reason I can think of, relating to safety was a few SmartDrive videos that the I probably have on file at Knight. If you score gets too high, you don't get your safety bonus. One month last year I didn't get it, because I had a few videos that apparently knocked me out of contention for it. Bear in mind that I had a ticket to fly and was within 30 hours of departure when they told me they were passing on my application. I ditched the whole trip because of this.

So the lesson to be learned is that no matter how good you were at one time, or thought you were, it can all change very quickly for no perceived reason and you find yourself as persona non grata. I suspect that they just know I'm going to quit after 4 months this time too, which would be very correct. It's very hard to maintain any connection with the family when you're 6000 miles away and the time difference is night and day, literally.

I know that trucking for me doesn't begin nor end with Knight, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to find another company in Phoenix who would pay me 44 cents per mile. For everyday that I'm not being put up in a hotel by the company it's costing me at least $80 per day, it would have taken a few weeks to get something else going and I just didn't want to go through it at the current time. Maybe early next year, when I have to renew my CDL or never drive again!

The bottom line is that the people who work in the megas have protocalls that they follow and they want the rewards without doing much in the way of effort for them. Also, the safety people are always on the edge, they won't "take a chance on you" and put their job in jeopardy. The days of someone in the office sticking up for the driver have long been gone.

A lot of people here say to ditch the megas, and there's probably some good advice there. Craigslist has a bunch of CDL jobs, but then there's the condition of the equipment that you'll run that you'll have to contend with. Smaller companies have to cut corners to compete with the megas because the megas drive down the rates to where the profit margin isn't very much. Kind of like the Walmartization of the trucking industry.

Work for a temp service, then you won't have to go through that when you take time off. Work when you want to. There's several temp services that hire cdl drivers. Trillium is just one of them.

    Alright. 2 things.
    1. Who the hell needs 10 years of employment history? That's ridiculous.
    2. Your writing style is nigh incomprehensible. Just one period is fine. Capitals at the start of a new sentence, and please when you start a new thought try hitting enter once or twice to space out subjects.

Yes, I routinely riffle through CraigsList for the Phoenix area and have seen this company. The thing is, I need to live in the truck to keep my expenses low for the duration of my stay in the USA, otherwise it's just not profitable, but as they say, "when one door closes, another one will open". If I didn't truly enjoy driving and seeing the country, albeit for only 4 months at a time, I would have ditched the whole CDL years and years ago.

Well for starters the FMCSA does, IF 391.21 (10), (11) applies to the applicant. The language in these regulations is clear and there is no ambiguity in regard to the intent of these rules.

YES! I know a lot of carriers both local and OTR are really loose when it comes to these job histories. What is not so known is what the FMCSA leaves these carriers with after a safety audit. Civil fines per 49 U.S.C. 521 and these said fines can reach into the thousands of dollars. For example, a Carrier based in Kentucky Chaparros Produce was hit with a small $630 FMCSA fine because a driver's qualification file lacked a DMV check. A New Jersey carrier Cr7 Moving And Storage Llc was hit with a $2100 fine because they had failed to even make a DQF AND they also had a HOS violation. I will also leave this final California Based carrier All Ways Transport, Inc. that was assessed a $9730 fine for 3 things. No annual driving check per 391.25, HOS violations, and their drivers were not documenting inspections as required by 396.11 (a). If anyone wants to waste some time go look at these files maintained by the FMCSA of fines over the past 24 months.
