Well @Moosetek13, you like a lot of other ignorant Americans, simply don't understand the meaning or the observance of Memorial Day.
It's about young men who died for their country......presumably you as well. There are no ideologies in a mud pit when someone is trying to kill you.
And it's a real shame that we can't take one day a year to remember those sacrifices without someone trying to sully it with some political and ideological rant.
    It's about men who died.

Lol you're a civilian too you know...I actually have tremendous respect for the military. I have tremendous respect for every single American because they contribute to society in their own way. Now I can admit, Memorial Day and holidays similar to it don't mean the same to me like does to certain groups of people, that's for reasons I'm unwilling to get into....but that being said, whats wrong with being excited about being able to BBQ? I love BBQ and for us, it's an opportunity to get together. We know what the "collective meaning" so to speak, but for us in my.household, it means something different.

There is no similar holidays to Memorial day. Your meaning of it has no value. Just say you don't recognize the holiday because you don't care. Its far less disrespectful than what you are saying now.

It's not a day to be celebrated. Its a day of sadness. A day of sorrow. A day to think about all the families that have lost their loved ones at war. Its a day to show respect for the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.
