Impressive man. Been doing this a long time and the company I work for have a asset side.
921 trucks and all flats. They work with some of the biggest players and YTD they average 2.44 a mile.
3 bucks a mile would net a driver over 160k net

Whats ur deadhead%?length of haul?what region ur running?.
Without the whole picture $2.48 and $2.8 a mile dont mean nothing.[/QUOTE]
I was just pointing out to @BrokerVeteran1 that there is nothing special about sub $2 mile freight. I'm an just shy of 20k miles in 11 weeks with one week off and, home every weekend. I just pulled 3 loads in a row from Chicago to Central Ohio for $3.55 a mile. And didn't get less than $2 mile coming back with less than 50 miles deadhead. Now that said I added an extra 150 miles to the last one so I could be at home this weekend. My loaded rate would be higher but I go home on the weekends even if the load doesent pass right by the house. I know this isn't everyone's idea of success but I'm not going to drive 3500 miles a week for $1.35 be gone for a month at a time. Doesent fit my lifestyle. My deadhead is %17.4 so far this year. Last was %24.3Last edited: Mar 14, 2017

Chicago flat is very similar to Memphis.
3500 loads available and 50 trucks posted.
I pay Chicago to Cleveland 302 miles I pay 1100.
But that's Chicago. That's why the foreigners move to america and set up shop there.
CLEVELAND BACK to Chicago pays 2.75.
God bless flatbeds in Chicago area.
I wish I lived in that area or I'd drive a truck for a living. -
Come on up it's snowing like hell and traffic is backed up for miles in all directions. Oh yea the tolls.
But your original comment was that there is no such thing as $3 mile loaded freight. My point was there is plenty if you just go get it! His $3.21 mile rate is well within reason especially if he is getting it direct so you shouldn't be calling him out for not telling the truth.
Raise your expectations of your coustemer and your carries and you will find trucks is my thinking. But what do I know?whoopNride, Ruthless and Kenworth 4life Thank this. -
This is my mindset.
See, once you get that big it's a volume game. High volume carriers cannot give the same personal attention we smaller guys can. That's why we will make it. Every carrier has a place and a certain scenario where he can thrive. The key is to find your wheelhouse and stick with it. -
With 921 trucks there's pressure to keep the revenue coming. One dispatcher for X trucks and they don't have time to be patient and negotiate better rates. Serving large customers also mean large customers negotiate for lower rates.
One truck owner operators that have figured out the game don't have that "gotta keep the wheels turning" mentality. The wheels turn when the rates are good. If the rates don't meet the requirement, then you park and be patient. A large carrier can't afford to do that if their drivers don't have skin in the rates, they would have high turnover.Pedigreed Bulldog Thanks this. -
So you want to be a carrier and you're one of these drivers that some of us guys just shake our heads in wonderment that they always shoot themselves in the foot telling themselves and anyone that will waste time listening on that nonsense. Keep telling yourself that someone booking rates like that from brokers can't be for real. Just seen a rate con this morning from TQL on a reefer load a buddy booked that was right up there with my Prime load yesterday. And look, no-one is claiming to be averaging $3 a mile on total miles with reefer, flat, or dry. That's your foolish broker think where empty miles mean nothing and don't count. When you're wearing that carrier hat every mile counts and deadhead eats into a $3, $4, $5 or higher rate pretty quickly.Lepton1, spyder7723, RollingRecaps and 1 other person Thank this.

What's dead head? I never unload because I want to be paid for every mile, lmao! Don't you have the run you rig for free option? He's trolling trying to get a ride from drivers and its working!spyder7723, Ruthless and rollin coal Thank this.
