You sound like an intelligent fella. I do stuff pictured below for a living.

After 16 years driving, there’s not a load that I do where I don’t worry about the details, pre plan the difficulty, envision the challenges.

I don’t sleep well before moves. But I manage to deliver every time, because I just have to.

Don’t worry - I suffer from many of the issues you just explained eloquently.

Be sure to thank your Haters. Haters are the means to see how well you are doing. Want to know if you truly suck? You will have absolutely ZERO Haters. You have a Hater? Someone watching your every me be, hoping for your failure? Congrats.

Did you go to school to be coddled by your instructors or did you go to school to get your CDL? If you do something wrong, do they tell you? Real world talk: if you are a good friend at driver, the majority of the world will never notice you. If you are testing terrible, everyone notices.

So, why endeavor to be better?

At the end of the day, you have to like who are. Slackers do not like who they are, but their default setting is set on Slacker. If you do not like who you are, does it matter what anyone else thinks?

This is something I struggle with as a trainer - giving praise in a way that makes the trainee feel the praise. I know that too often I come across as "you sucked less that time", as do most of the trainers in this industry. It's hard to get enthusiastic about a grown man doing the basic things right. When coupled with the short amount of time we have to convey a myriad of interconnected skills and ideas, it's easy for the trainee to overlook the praise. It would be nice if I could let y'all bask in the glow of a successful back for a few minutes but our 14 is ticking and there's a driver waiting for us to get uncoupled so he can do his thing.

One of the strategies I employ to counter this is to ask my trainee "what did I do wrong there?". Most of the time the trainee can't identify things I did wrong. I then list, in excruciatingly minute detail every last thing I did wrong with a strong emphasis on things that are bad habits of mine. I explain that being hypercritical of myself is HOW I gained my skills and WHY I just past a million consecutive safe miles. I make a dozen mistakes a day. Most of them are small, inconsequential things. It's not the mistake that matters, it's how you respond to it. Noticing the small things is how you avoid the big issues.

Notice when your trainer 'moves on' to a new criticism. There will always be something new to learn, so when the trainer is no longer harping on 'mirror checks' and is talking about something completely different it's a sign you've improved your mirror checks. Positive feedback doesn't have to be verbal.

If people are offering criticism it means they care. Sometimes that criticism will come in the form of "Boy, just how many times did your momma drop you on your head?". The harshness of the criticism can originate from a lot of different places. It could be the feedback that trainer found was most useful for him. It could be the trainer trying to shock you into realizing just how unbelievably stupid you just were. Find whatever positive you can.

Right now it seems to me you're looking for outside structure to hold you up. It's time to look within yourself for the means to stand on your own.

I think hopefuleyes/ solosoul/ other alias has hired an articulate "ghost writer". To the OP......If your post includes even the least bit of truth and sincerity, Trucking is not for you. Maybe a grief counselor, yoga instructor, barista, barber, suicide hotline operator......? Sorry....I don't buy this post for a second. Yeah.....I've been called a negative a ss hat before.

    Maybe it isn't,
I got into it because it was the only job I could think of that didn't require a mask,
But maybe I can re-train my brain to get rid of this negative unhelpful stuff in it
It's unnecessary to give up hope, unless 10,000 people point their fingers at me and be like, "Look at that fool! Why does he try or even have hope?"
The solutions to my problems must exist on this planet
But I'm digressing from the subject of trucking and getting myself prepared for it
My CDL license is good for 8 years, a solution for me will arrive where I'll feel confident enough then to use it
I got a lot of useful posts here from you guys and I enjoyed throwing all my weirdness out there, and I get to see it poked at cautiously by others with 10 foot long sticks. Please don't think of me as a troll. I will solve my problems but I often have to look outside myself for help

Lmao I was using it as an example of adversity being good to a limited extent.
I don’t recommend anyone go have impromptu dental work regardless of how much tequila has been consumed.

more of “don’t be afraid just do it and some things are gonna hurt in life”
“Discomfort is a sign of growth” sometimes

Too much negativity can weigh down the soul yes.
It’s ok to be proud of yourself if no one else is.

When I was training I remember thinking it was not really good training. I had would describe it as sink or swim. You learn from the info they give you and basically swim and keep trucking and keep learning as different things come up.

I would say lots of trainers don't really know how to train. I was a trainer for 2 years and I'm not saying I know everything but I read some off stuff on hear people say about shifting gears for new drivers. Seems like people give the wrong advice. I had trouble shifting gears and was told a trick and the way to shift gears was at 1,000 RPMs or less when stopped or at stop light. I don't understand why more driver with experience don't know this trick to shift smooth and easy for a new driver.

You might not need all that hypnosis self help stuff. They do have lots of audio books and pod cast you can listen to while driving and learn all kinds of new thing or self help stuff if you want
