There is nothing about the Atlanta terminal that takes a "feat" to get in and out ... some other terminals may be easier ... ie even a lazy driver can do it. But the Atlanta terminal, pretty routine for a competent driver ... for the incompetent, well I can't speak to that. It may very well be a "feat" for them.

    Silvermitts,

I understand that I may now know how to do things, but they should have been taught to me by my mentor. Most of the stuff I've learned has been from my boyfriend who is a trainer for an outside company. Been on the phone pretty much daily with him because I just can't get the knowledge out of my mentor. I don't know her reason for not wanting to drive at night, but if I were a mentor and it was my student's turn to drive, and we were going into a highly icy area to where we would have to chain or go very slow, I wouldn't be sleeping and expect the truck to travel 600 miles. Granted, I now have driven in the snow and ice but the complete lack of training I'm receiving is appalling.

Not to mention, my paychecks have been incredibly low because I'm so far behind on drive time. I think I've driven in the daytime like... twice? I've been patiently waiting for my midterm review and every time we've been to a terminal has been on a weekend or after business hours when they're not doing them. I don't want to start any crap with the training admin from my home terminal or Phoenix just to get out of the truck at the next terminal. I want to do it right and accurately bring up my concerns about wanting to go with another mentor for a new experience on how another does his/her job without being stuck in the truck for a few days with a pissed off mentor.

I got done with training on Sunday. January 23rd to March 17th. There was time off in there. I think to much time off really. Took the driving and backing tests and passed them. It was a long hard road to get here but its done. I am just waiting on a truck and a driver manager I was thinking about calling but I have to see my doctor before I go out on the truck anyway and I can't get in to see him till Friday. I don't really care for the new driver director or whatever her title is. Shes pretty rude. I am out of Fontana. I am hearing from people at my truck school that swift is dropping the ball on a lot of people recruiting wise. I really only am going to stay with swift for a year to get what I need to to move on. this has been the worse time I have ever had working. I thought I would be having a little fun. I know its suppose to be work but this is what I have always wanted to do. maybe it will be different once I get out there. other swift drivers have been really cool its MY mentors and the non drivers that I had to deal with that are going to give me a heart attack.

Congrats on passing and welcome to the road. It does get better now that you will be out on your own. Just remember all the nondrivers you were dealing with will still be there. Having the right attitude can make a world of difference in this profession.
