Mercedes MBE 4000 problems

I saw similar things on markets. Motor rebuilders use these things in exaust passages areas, installing tirbos, ex. manyfolds.

You see areas where coolant leaks, and if you let coolant leak for long time - do cyl. head resurfacing, but do not forget to pull injector out first LOL!!!

I posted these shots before but I do it againe to shpw you a weak point of all Mercedes PLD engines with head per cylinder.

I'm sure there is someone in Au who got Mercedes Star Diagnose ore DDDL. They can check any MB engine

 

Paublo-UA, about how long does it take to replace a headgasket?????

Has there been any updated head gaskets to help cure this problem????

 

really, it is about 30-45 min per gasket is you do not need to resufrace head.

newer gaskets are better now comparing with early.

I read your post from last year, but saw you came in 5 days ago. Don't know if you still run the '05 Columbia with the Mercedes engine. I'm still running my '04 Columbia(six years now). I haven't had near the problems I've heard others had or are having. One thing I noticed is that the engine is NOT a high speed engine. I average 60 mph and the engine struggles with heavy loads at 65-70 mph. The biggest repair bill I had was for a blown turbo and that was about 3 years ago. My main problem is with the air conditioning system which I have to have repaired religiously every spring. Anywho, I'm gonna run this dog into the ground b4 buying another truck. Won't be a Freightliner though.

Yes, in Europe all class 8 trucks are 55 mph governed and they make engine for lower speeds. But headgasket damage we see is usual for trucks droven in low engine speed, lower 1100 rpm. Rev engine up to 1400 and dont worry about "local overheating".
