If there's coolant on the fuel tanks and you have fuel tank heaters the first thing I would check is the coolant lines running to the tank heaters.

I wanna remind you about om460 design. PLD units supplied with fuel are located in engine block (cam shaft driven). so cracked engine block may loose fuel in coolant too. and it is not all. fuel return passages are in cyl. head. so cracked ore corroded cyl head may really be the problem.

Yep, we do compression test forst, but unfortunatly DDDL does not support compression tes and we have to use star diagnose. Well, the other way to find the problem - let engine cool down, remove rad. cap and remove fuel return lines and use copressed air to find faultey cyl. head. Yeah, it is not easy deal, but you will find bubbles in rediator ore coolant reervour!

And inspect fuel filters. Sometimes mercedes use coolant heated fuel filters

This is all good information but unless he typed it wrong he said there was coolant ON the fuel tanks not In the fuel tanks.

make sure you match right gasket to head or you will have coolant in your oil.

If it has a davco with coolant heater check that. or you have bad injector cups those are the most common.

I have a 2005 Freightliner Columbia with Mercedes MBE 4000 engine. This truck has been nothing but problems from day one. At 290K the coolant started to leak from head gaskets, so the dealer replaced liners, pistons and head gaskets under warranty. Now at 415K, just 15K out of warranty, the same problem is happening. Dealer wants to do an overhaul, but wants me to pay for it. I think this is ridiculous.

As I understand it, this is a common problem with that engine. If you've had experience with such problem, please let me know how you solved it. I'm about to file a lawsuit against Detroit, so any supporting info would be helpful.

The most frustrating part is that there is no contact outside the dealer. Nobody at Freightliner not Detroit would take my call. Looks like the counter service guy is the final authority.

Hello sir just wondering what you ended up doing about problem, I have a 2006 with the same problem.
    Thanks

really if you wanna coolant leak problem dissapeare check head surface every time it is removed and resurface it is you find surface bad, else in 100-200K problem appeares againe.

And use high quality sealant (not RTV) around water passages under gasket and on gasket. It helps and problem dissapeare for million miles... Belive me, I work for company with hundreds trucks (Mercedes, Volvo, MAN TGA and Renault) and I know these simple tricks.
