Considering fuel should be 40 cents per mile id tell him to pound sand.

That's the opposite of the response I was expecting. I mean $2700 net a week is alot better then some guys are doing. Esp with being home everynight and off weekends.

Who cares what 'some guys ' are doing. Do you plan on being average? Or do you plan on being above average? 540 for a full day is crap in this market. It would be different if we were talking about 2 or 3 hour days where you are home before lunch.

Very good point, and no I by no means want to be average, but I did see this as a stepping stone getting the truck working and my foot in the door as a O/O. Mercer is where we want to call home but with no OTR experience just local work it's hard to find a company that will take us. We both have all our endorsements, 5 years total driving for me and 4 for her, we are both trainers at our current company running tankers, we both have a few months flatbed, and she was a CDL instructor at a local college but with no OTR everyone says we have to go out with trainers for 6 weeks and we refuse to do so, then spend a year at some company OTR job while my nice shiny classic sits in the driveway. I'd take a dry van at mercer for a year if they let me come on but they are strict on that one year OTR .

As a stepping stone then this guy wouldn't be terribly bad, but it isn't much of a stepping stone since you still aren't going to be getting any otr experience. Now that being said, many guys(company and owner operator) spend their whole careers running local.

If you know him would and have a frank discussion with him that its only for a year, maybe he will classify you as regional?

Columbia makes a product like that too. They are amazing. It feels your not even wearing a shirt but with sun protection. Totally worth the price.

That's what the plan was. He already knows we plan to head out OTR, and he doesn't want to lose us because he just signed a new contract with CNX for a year, but we have work all over PA, WV, and OH. We just tend to work mainly in Ohio and when we don't he pays for hotels for the out of town guys.

Well working on the last side now taking about 45 mins each side it seems. Not to bad with a impact gun which is what u will need to remove these things. The hardest part is cleaning the area where it goes as mine corroded on.. I think i will need new brackets in about a year or 2 as one is a little cracked but not a lot...

So he pays 50% and butts the fuel? What about insurance and base plate? I don't think I would do it. Mercer gets 25% and that's too high as it is. No way I would run for 50% unless they paid for all my expenses out of their 50%. I still might not do it then even.

You need to define everything, if plates, ins, fuel and the wet kit installed is part of everything it may not be a bad way to work out the bugs as long as there is no long term commitment
