Maybe so, just have some cash saved. It does take a month or so to learn the system and lanes. I've noticed that rates have softened over the last couple weeks, but still decent money to be had.
Rates are good! last 2-3 weeks i've been doing nothing but KY to NM then TX to KY.. My Avg is 2.01 a mile all miles.. Not gonna complain...
Lol ok... Well good luck then. But they're gonna be times where you might have to sit.. And this isn't a 7 day operation.. It's basically Monday thru Friday while your truck payment is 7 days going non stop.. Just saying it's a little different here then your regular fleece company
Lol. That's the same thought I had. I figured since rates were so good flatbedders would be averaging above $2.50 for all miles. Good thing is that some need a lot of money and others don't so whatever makes a guy happy is all that counts.
Month of June, Loaded miles Step 2.31 a mile Flat 2.38 Van 1.88 All miles avg Step 2.08 Flat 2.16 Van 1.75
I've been hovering around $1.95 a rolling mile the past month. But, I've been having 3000+ mile weeks with a few large (750 range) deadheads. And my average load weight has been under 30000 lbs with only a handful needing tarped. Like this load I'm on eastern PA to Vegas. Pay was ok, 1.96 a mile before deadhead. But, I have a day job/run in Vegas for a little over a grand to move stuff around town half the day Sunday. Then pick up in Vegas on Monday heading back to CO for 2.55 a mile with an 8 mile deadhead. Getting out of CO may be a trick but I'm probably gonna bounce east again for another gem of a load. I could stay east of the Mississippi and make 2.50 a rolling mile and gross 5-6k a week right now. But that is loading and unloading nearly every day and in some places I don't like. And for a guy that lives in OH or KY right now he could absolutely kill it and be home every other night easily. Like you said though, as long as a guy is making what he wants and is doing what he wants then that is all that matters. I've been leveraging the rates some and getting to areas I like (UT, AZ, NM, CO, WY) and visiting family around the country while I can. Once rates turn it'll be back to the eastern half of the country for a month at a time.
