we had all our own equip when we leased....that was prior to the big event....Mercer got rid of 250+ lease opperators who just couldn't "get it" so to speak with out going into detail.......Mercer had to take the trailers back and so to lease on you have to take one of their trailers.......now I do not know if when they get all the re-poed trailers gone if they will go back to O/O leasing with their own equip or not.......we were flatbedders before we came to Mercer.......

thanks Lil Blue ... that's interesting. Well they did not care if I brought my own or leased. Legally (for what it's worth) they could not force anyone to lease equipment from them, but we won't open up that discussion. I would like to know more about "the event" if you could tell me privately. I like to be armed with as much knowledge as possible about things that could go wrong, or displease a company.
I was hoping some more drivers would join in with some opinions. You guys have been helpful. I'm still wondering how the pay system works though (hint). -
we use direct dep. into the check acct. then I view my check acct online to know my balances. only bad thing is that I have to ait till I get home to match the money up with the loads and enter it all into the bookeeping program.....pay is as fast as Mercer get the paperwork. We use the Trip-Pak system and pay a monthly fee which Mercer deducts......I'll PM ya on the big event!
...there is a link to the land-line newstory somewhere on here......but as always there is a tad bit more to the story......

that was very useful info and what i wanted to know. As long as you have a record of the load and revenue you should be able to match up the deposit, shouldn't you? Well, thinking about it I guess once you throw in settlement deductions that kind of messes up that idea. I'm trying to think too much this morning and already I'm giving myself a headache.
Where have you been running this week? Is freight picking up at all? Industry reports say there was more freight this Oct than same time last year, the first month that has seen an increase over corresponding time a year ago. If this continues it is a good sign.
What about logs, does Mercer provide their own or do we? I only ask because for my company I print our own logs, cheaper and nicer than anything I can buy. -
..that's correct on the deduction's messing up matching up money and load sheets....also you are interested in van's...may be hy you can bring your own trailer....if they said that about flats they great to hear that info......been running our tails off.....had a great week...better than this time last year....as far as feaight picking up I really think it stems from the fact there are fewer trucks to haul it hence the fact we are actually getting more settelments/loads.......I know one day last winter Mercer had 2000 trucks and 200 loads for the day......don't think for a min. the BS the ATA puts out about their being a driver shortage is true.......there is a freight shortage and well ...I'll stop .......anyay hope this helps.......oh yea we went from making 4K-6k (some times)a week down to much less on Mercer...the other job flat ended no going back....BUT there are some perks we get here that we did not get at the smaller co.....normally the DH is much lower and somehow the bills still get paid....and we have truck payments now and not before........another thing don't expect to get home often and still turn the miles.....unless you live in Houston....
..rotfl......

Bell my van will be parked, they are not putting on any more at this time, just flats. But I'll be getting my trailer through them and that's the only big payment other than the house. Sure am glad not to have a truck payment these days. I'd like to get back to have no debt other than business related and the house payment. It's taking longer to knock off the credit cards because of the change they made in recent years that allowed them to increase our payments and made it easy for the banks raise interest rates to the ridiculous levels they're at now. &
Well next year with CSA2010 I anticipate some drivers will just quit the industry because they can't cope with following the rules, and other will be let go because of their driving history and accumulated points. What that should do is decrease truck capacity while freight availability slowly rises. In a pure supply & demand situation that would increase rates as shippers need to compete for trucks, and likewise our pay goes up. I'm sure though given the nature of the trucking industry they will find a way to limit what flows into our pockets.
Off the topic, I put some photos in my album, then discovered they get listed as newest one first. I have a sequence of a truck driving around traffic to run through a RR crossing with the gates down, but now they are in reverse order! Wish I knew that first. -
I got your message but it tells me I can't respond until I have 250 posts!
It's the silver freightliner that I'll be putting on, that one I bought and paid for myself. The red international was bought with money from all company owners. It's a really nice truck, ten times nicer than mine inside. I should lease it so someone, it seems that's the only way to get drivers that are interested in working. Employee drivers want to be home all the time, just work enough to get some cash and pay the bills, and hit the road again when broke. -
The pay system is rather simple.
When you lease on you will be given a comdata & a TCH fuel card. When you get loaded you can get paid 50% of that load onto either or both fuel cards. This is your fuel/maint/do what ever you want money.
Then you will be paid the remainder of that load 24-48 hours after Mercer receives the paperwork. The $6 a month trippak charge is well worth the cost.
You can take the remainder pay on your fuel cards, check sent to the house, or direct deposit. -

Hey REDD, how does Mercer do dispatch. Do you find your own loads from their board like Landstar or do they have dispatchers that plan your loads for you? Is there anyplace a driver can take load securement training? I have considered getting into flatbed when I get my truck but i have only done very minimal flatbed work and that was 9 years ago.
