Redd, there's plenty of freight over 2.80/mi
48,000 LB 8ft tarp, customer & shipper don't pay detention
15.00/mi
estimated 6 hr to load and 8 to unload (crane at jobsite)
20 miles, $300 (including tarp and FSC)
see, how can anyone pass on a load like that?outerspacehillbilly Thanks this. -
$2.80 a mile is nearly $1.50 more per mile then what I currently have on my trailer. Although I took this load so I can get close to my storm ravaged area....
Plus Mercer decals maybe coming off my truck within the next week or two......
Hopefully. -
Redd,
Whats going on that you are leaving? Where are you going next? -
Ain't making no ####### money. Fuel prices keep going up & the rates stay the same or go down.
I'm trying to hook up with heavy haul.... And at this time, that's all I feel comfortable saying. Hopefully I'll know more next week. I spoke to the owner of the other company for a good hour today over the phone. He asked me to call him back on Monday when he's in the office....
And he use to be with Mercer as well.... He spent 5 years with Mercer & pulled all his trucks a year ago for the same reason why I may be leaving. He was also a agent for Mercer during that time. -
Aren't you pulling a van right now?
-
Nope. Never pulled a van -
just curious, would anyone care to elaborate on rates.
just wondering about things, what are you guys averaging per mile, figuring loaded and empty miles? just curious , since leasing to mercer, feb15 til 4-30-2011 i am averaging 1.72 a mile for every mile i have ran loaded an empty. for any long time mercer folks is this above or below average?
i am making money , i dont cull loads by whether they tarp or dont tarp, i take the highest paying load into the easiest reload areas, i try to often book loads ahead if possible.
example this weeks run mon theu friday ga to dc area, 640 miles with 100 mile deadhead 2.12 a mile, next run dc area to chicago, 41 mile deadhead 752 miles at 1.75, then from indiana to tifton,ga 848 miles 1.92 a mile 98 mile deadhead
averages out to 1.73 for every mile i put on the truck. left home monday, back home friday. is this below or above avg??
also at 4303 revenue for the week for 2479 miles, this was my lowest revenue week since leasing on , avg has been a hair over 5 grand a week revenue.
tried this to get home more often -
You are doing better than I. My average is more like $4k gross per week.
I have been getting about the same rate, though I have to look/wait for it. Lately there's always someone ahead of me grabbing good loads wherever I happen to get empty. I sit out for a day in the middle of a week as a result. -
I think the answer depends on what you're willing to give up/trade.
