Would I get enough use out of my side kit to justify carrying around the extra 1500 lbs or would I be better off to just leave it at home.
It stores in an aluminum carrier under the trailer when not needed.
I started the application process today and prefer to run coast to coast and Canada. I don 't like loading/unloading every day and that's pretty much what I'm doing pulling tankers now. I've had my flatbed parked for 4 years and desperately need to start getting some exercise.
I'd like to thank everyone on this thread also. I've been researching a half dozen carriers and your posts made my decision pretty easy in the end.

I've been pulling the flat about 1/2 a year for mercer and may be had 6 loads where the kit would be beneficial, include the instalation time and effort and the efficiency might be gone. If you never plan to pull heavy - 48k+ - to let u out of tight spot then, have it. If you need to get in shape, leave it at home.

Yea, I think I will. It only makes things easier when you can leave it set up all of the time but to do that you have to stay in a very select area of the country. Will my headboard on the trailer cause problems on many loads?
I don't want to spend $1000.00 on a headache rack if I don't have to.

If you have a 53ft then probably not. 48ft- might. With my mercer flatbed "career", I've pulled 2 loads that needed trailer with no rack, 53ft is diff, I would say 5, to be

Could someone tell me? What does Mercer's freight look like in the Birmingham and North Ala area? Would like some info. Thinking about coming over at the first of the year. Im not one to run west coast. I like doing those 500 mile trips, if the pay is there. I really would like to hear from some of the current drivers if possible.

If you want dedicated acc due to the tight home time, most likely will not happen. Short runs?, are plenty

Not looking for a dedicated run. Would take one if it paid well! I was just asking if Mercer has a strong freight base in the middle to northern Alabama area. You guys see the load board everyday, so I figured you guys would be the best way to find out.

Well, I never ran one state with mercer. They do have a good base in that area, for now. However, if you'll limit your self to AL only, you'll be missing out later on.
Call them: (800)-626-5375 ask for the recruiter . Find Out more info and ask for the history of that location.
