that doesn't sound like how things are normally done at all, and surely there was freight somewhere nearby. I got stuck for the weekend last week in Louisville, but I wasn't finished with repairs after truck inspection on Friday until nearly 2pm. Everyplace loading nearby had 2-3pm cutoffs and I couldn't get there in time, and everything further away I still couldn't make by their deadlines. But there was plenty of freight available. Maybe stepdeck is the problem, I can't say with any authority on that. Do you have load levelers?
I'll be sending you a PM shortly.

How are you guys making out with your steps?
I'm thinking about buying 8/40 or 11/42. Advice?
Thanx. -
Mercer is primarialy a flatbed company. They do get some good loads for steps tho. I pull a step and have to bounce farther than I normally would have to with a regular flatbed.
-
I think it's normally to bounce futher for a step but usually better freight for step and usually better money.
-
Not always, they really don't have alot of step only freight.
-
Here is where I'm coming from: I currently pull
A flat. Not a big deal when tarpi g is not involved ; ) .
Almost every load for this current year, that I've hauled, cod have been loaded on the step. Can't say the same wise wersa. Even if I'll pull the same flat loads on the step, in my opinion and please add or subtract, I also have a chance to pull other step only. I do know that there are flat only loads, but not often. Where is step only is seen more often than flat only. -
I'm thinking 11/42; but don't know, since have had no experience. 11/42 would make sense-more options. - might be an overkill-might. Makes it easier to tarp an 8ft on step than flat. Not often but, it happens.
-
I've seen a lot of loads I would have wanted but needed a step for. Then I hear guys with steps saying they could have more loads if they had a flat. As is typical in trucking, the grass is always greener somewhere else.
Big Duker Thanks this. -
You might be right. Next time you pull loads, track how many of the loads you pull on flat-could have been done on a step.
-
I pull about 80% of my loads out of the same place, requires a flat because they load at a dock. Most of my other loads could be on a step, but many times the shippers don't
want that although I don't know why.
