I pulled out one stake & took some pics for you. They are 4' long & you have too make them to where they fit into the stake pockets of your trailer. I only carry 4 pipe stakes.

roshea Thanks this. -
Great! I didn't realize they were something so simple. I probably have enough pipe laying around the junk pile to do that, but it will be easier to buy what I need specifically for that purpose. The flattened section is how long? Enough to stick through the stake pocket two or three inches? Nothing holds these things in?
Four is the standard quantity, any need for more than that? -
My stake pockets are 4 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide.
I just measured the flattened out end & on mine they are right around 6 inches.
All that they are needed for is to make sure pipe don't roll off the trailer... With the pressure weight of the pipe & a couple bungees, they won't go no where. -
That is why I said that you have the resources to make en yourself. And that is why I snapped a pic showing the diameter of the pipe so you can do just that.
All I was told I needed to buy were four & that is all I see on the Texas trucks hauling pipe. -
The set I had with maverick was not even that thick of gauge. Was galvanized pipe. Looked like galvanized fence post (tubing) that goes in between a gate on a chain linked fence. I had 2 footers and 4 footers. They are not for securement. Like redd said just to keep pipe from rolling off till you secure it. Some use 6 foot sections, but the few times I have used them I use the 4 foot sections. 4 is enough for a full length load, but if you get short pipe 8 is better. 4 for the front bundle and 4 for the rear bundle.

Not sure if you have hauled much pipe, but a lot of places will give you written directions on how to secure and unload. Gut strap it. Be careful unloading. I only take the straps off the top layer and loosen straps as I go. Pipe is dangerous and can shift and roll and kill you in a instant. Be careful a fork truck does not bump the other side and make the pipe fall of on the other side if you are working on the other side. My escape route was always to dive under the trailer if pipe fell.
Some loads you will need a smoke tarp. The following pic is a mercer load I picked up in calvert city KY. No pipe stakes.
-
I'll make up four for now. Can always run to the local flatbed supply stores and make up more on the road if needed (Lowes / Home Depot)

My roommate will be home shortly. I told her we're heading out to get stakes tonight.
I think in about 30 minutes I'm gonna get my butt kicked buy a little redhead with no sense of humor
oh, will these loads pay better if I get them chromed? -
picked up a smoke tarp already. somebody put money down to hold it and never came back. I paid the difference and it's mine now.
Lots of log trucks around here, similar dangers with one or two drivers a year having a load fall on them no matter how much they get told about safety. They do the same loads all the time and familiarity leads to complacency. We get something different all the time which is good, forces us to think about each load individually and hopefully not take anything for granted.
Now it's time to go get scrubbed up so I can go out and get some stakes
Oh yeah, I'm gonna be in trouble. I'll compromise and tell her to walk over to KFC across the street from home depot while I'm inside. -
You don't need pipe stakes for plastic pipe. The pipe stakes are generally for loads of lose steel pipe. Not bundled loads.
