Down the road, perhaps. Unless it's 25 degrees or colder, I rarely idle other than morning warm up and 5-minute cool down at the end of the day, both of which APU won't help. KW's cab insulation is pretty good, and two layers of sleeping bags are good enough to keep me warm most of the time. Not sure what's gonna happen in summer, though.
Also 4.8mpg was mostly because I was doing 75mph, with possibly some head wind (I-70 through KS). The truck gets mpg in high 5s to low 6s if I run at 66-ish.
Just got 6.1mpg over yesterday and today pulling a light load through ID and WY, even though I ran into pretty severe direct head wind from Rock Springs to Rawlins.
Sitting at NE/WY state line. Permit lady didn't get me NE permit on Friday, and I arrived here well before sunset. Grrrr!! -
Dave I sent you a PM but to others who are NOT Mercer contractors...our board is private...not for the public to share.....it is a perk of being a contractor..if you want information on Mercer I can pm.
Katz how is it going????? Dang I hate it when permits screw up like that learned to be one step ahead of them ....because they won't be one step ahead of us.....

I told her I'd like to get NE and IA permits before the weekend, but didn't happen.
In her defense, there was some screw up on the shipper's end. They initially said the width is 110". It turned out to be 120", so she had to reorder Washto permits in very short time frame.
But then again, she didn't get me UT permit I asked for so I had to take US-30 instead of getting on I-80 directly from I-84. Had to shut down a couple hours early yesterday also, as night travel is a no-no other than on the Interstates in WY. -
Delivered the OD load I had with no drama on Thursday morning. I wasted about a day due to incompetence and lack of communication from the OD permit lady I was dealing with. My coordinator says I can get the permits myself next time I take an OD load.
Got a good load yesterday. Paid $760 for 270 hub miles - just bundles of rusty gas pipes, 6 straps and no tarp. But I spent almost $70 for tolls. #### NJ bridges and PA turnpikes.
Stuck in Buffalo NY for the weekend - honestly, a little break is welcome as I'm low on hours and I could use some extra sleep.
The truck is getting terrific fuel mileage for some reason. I got 6.6 mpg on the last fill up. I did some minor work on the engine during the last home time (changed all charge pipe clamps, increased fuel pressure with CAT's stiffer spring kit), and I've been adding Opti-lube to fuel. Or maybe refinaries are just switching to summer blend.
I didn't have to deliver the aforementioned pipe load until Monday, so I thought about going to the healthcare takeover protest in District of Corruption. But decided not to. -
Just left mercer orientation on wed. 3/17 so far I have never felt happier about a trucking co.

Are you pulling a flat or a step?
Me personally, I've been very pleased since I got a new coordinator. I didn't get along with the first one well.
