Yeah thats why mechanic said its so much to replace. If the syncho was bad, would there still be air noise when switching the lever for lo and hi?

I went back to double check and to be more precise when in LO and switching to HI... there is NO air noise BUT when switching from HI to LO there IS air noise.....
-
Rather obvious, but have you drained your air tanks recently?
-
Yes, regularly

Before you spend a lot of money it's best to start with the simple things like the air regulator on the back of the transmission, the slave valve, and the actual switch on the shifter. And check all of your Airlines including the little ones that go up into the shifter. Maybe one of them got crushed or blocked or is leaking.

How would I check the regulator or the slave valve? Slave Valve kit is $230 from Meritor where entire Syncro kit is $530... both OEM
-
Change the valve on the back of the transmission, that is the main air supply for your trans.
-
Are you talking about the air regulator?

Did you ever figure out the problem? I'm on the side of the road in Phoenix with the same issue
