Off topic but I was making a hazmat delivery at a Jacobson warehouse in Houston, TX once and ran into one of their senior drivers (that's an understatement lol) who ran down to Houston from Jersey every week. He had been with Metropolitan for 47 years.. ..had decals and such on his truck, a gazillion safe miles, etc. That was about 3 or 4 years ago. I wonder if he made it to 50 that was really impressive.

Yes, I think that is surely true. When I was there a guy started about 1955 with them or so. As I said, there were one of the best. I stayed there 3 years before I got into trouble over logs. I would leave my home in Newark Ohio on Sunday afternoon, deliver somewhere, but always end up in Texas before the week was out, and back home by Saturday morning. What I like about them was their 'no touch-no food warehouse' freight.

Just another update, i talked to a few other drivers, who were getting screwed by rich mehalik, and if i knew how to contact them right now, i'd see if i could get them to tell their story here too. any company that does what was done to me, should be put out of business. and rich mehalik should be made to be homeless, because he deserves it.

Plain and simple, truck driving sucks. Did it for quite a while. Always got treated like ####. Got a local job doing shuttles to the airport. I'm home every night and the pay's better. If you think you're gonna see something glamorous on the road, you're wrong. All I saw was highways that looked the same and ######## truckstops. Some nights I was driving so long I forgot where the hell I was. Don't buy into that cowboy lifestyle they're trying to sell you. It's not true.

I know this post is old, but maybe someone might benefit from reading it. I also worked for Metropolitan and they are not a high miles company-some weeks were 1600 when I was willing to run anything. They are overly safey concious with speed, log books have to be perfect or redone, and they check the hard breaking, out of gear, and overspeed readouts weekly. Definately not a company where you can make big money but if you are extremely casual then they might work. I just could not put up with constant Chicago and 1600-2500 mile weeks.

Also, someone posted about how good Roehl is-they are not better than Swift or any other run-of-the-mill company. Driver who said they are top-notch-don't be so naive of what the truck school recruiters tell you.

I know that man-an African American driver right? He is cool and yes he has been with them since the 1950's. I worked for Metro-but did not like the over the wall saftey checks. The only good thing was they would ask you where you want to go and find a load for you going that way. That was the only company that ever did that. I also would leave Ohio on Sun. deliver in Chicago, they to NJ terminal, then to Houston or Brownsville, and be home by Sat morning and do it all over again. I think the company was sold and the Jewish family does not own it anymore. They were a good company when I spent my first year there, then got into checking your truck computer and wanting to know about ever 'hard brake' and everytime your truck was out of gear whist moving, and then cut miles to make all logs beyond legal-legal. I had to move on-but they would honestly ask you where you want to go on each load.
