Looking for a new set of tires for our field truck, these caught my eyes was wondering if anybody had used them and had some feedback.
Was going to get some good off road tires for the truck but plans have changed and it will now see its share of road time. Nothing spectacular, less than 1,000 miles per month. But enough to look at tires capable of running on road somewhat with decent wear and ride while getting very good traction in the fields.
Currently have FD663 Firestones on the truck. Didn't get many miles out of them. Can't say anything too bad about them, they work, but if we could get a little better traction and a little better wear too, it would be worth it.
Thanks.

Looks like a good tire for your operation. If they wear as good as the XDN2's you should be very happy.
-
that's what I was hoping for. Not necessarily the same wear as them but the longer wear Michelin is known for. We have the XDN2s on our truck that sits on the road all day. Have a bunch of agribibs on tractors too. They all wear like iron but you do pay for it.

i dont know how michelin name its tires in us but in europe xdy is tire for drive axle for trucks which work on and off road ( like street tipper) or something
michelin are too soft for construction try to look at bridgestone they provide very good ratio between price and quality and what you get from tire for off road -
Durally: not trying to talk you out of Michelins. I like Michelins but Goodyear came out with a new tire recently that i am going to look into when time comes for new tires. Only size appears to be 11R24.5. Doesnt look like a long wearing tread but we cant have everything on and off road..

Too soft as in puncture resistance? Were not in construction just ag use and on road.
The Michelins on our tractors have a very thin sidewall. It punctures easily but the upside is the ride quality, traction and wear. Outweighs the price and puncture resistance.
I'm partial against good year. I could be biased but every Goodyear product we have used hasn't faired well except for the limited use items.
I used to be a bridge stone/Firestone tire tech and saw a lot of the Goodyear failures in many industries.
We have 22.5 talls. Most of the aggressive off road tires are only available for 24.5s but due to the amount of road use the truck will have we need something longer wearing. We are not constantly in deep mud or snow but just want a little better traction to reduce the amount of towing needed.
Thanks .

ordered a set of 8 last week should be here next week or so. Just in time for snow season. Be interesting to see how they do in that compared to the XDN2 S. I'm guessin deep snow they will be better but the XDN2 S should probably be better on ice.
Also got a pair of XZA3s for the other truck that sits on the road. Had some cheap Gladiators on it that wore really weird and down to cords in one spot with only 25000 on them. drives much smoother now.

sorry miss your post before
i mean soft thread tire is wear fast last set we had last for only 6-7months (XDY3) on 3rd axle
while good year rhd last twice longer on 4th axle
ok 3rd axle is worn bit faster than 4th but still michelin is too soft comparing to those GY which were even not off road tire but with squares and it was driven on rock terrain -
chec out what tires that are on the crude oil trucks from the big companies and get some of them
-
Interesting. First I've heard somebody say the Michelin tread was too soft. Usually theyb have very hard compounds.
These tires are the "updated" version of the XDY3. Supposed to get better life due to a beefier center rib and better clean out with the directional design.
I did price the Bridgestone block tread too but feared they would wear to quickly due to their design and intended use.
For the price through the advantage program we made out okay on these. Guess we will have to see how the hold up in the long run.
thanks.
