I have a 3000w continuous 6000w peak pure sine power inverter. I have a 700w microwave. Every time I turn on the microwave it trips immediately. I have tried 3 different 700w microwaves thinking it was an issue with the microwave. I try to run it with the truck running and nothing else plugged in. I have run a 1100w burner(turned on high), 32” TV, Xbox, and a fridge all at the same time with no issues. It was installed by someone at my company’s garage. He used bigger gauge wires than what came with the inverter because he said what they give you aren’t big enough. I would appreciate any info someone could give. EDIT: It is a 12v inverter. Could that be the cause? Do I need a 24v inverter?

Not much to an install regarding any wiring/connections. 2 cables from the battery to the inverter.
How To Install Power Inverter in semi truck; the really simple guide - Truckers InsiderLast edited: Jun 4, 2023

Make sure there’s a fuse or breaker on positive at the battery connection. I know very little about it. Recently installed my own 2000w. Lot of different info on the installation. Seems that a fuse rated at 10% ( for lack of better term and memory sake) is the proper size. So 200 amp maxi fuse for a 2000w inverter. 300 amp fuse for a 3000w inverter. Different styles fuses available. Cheap off the shelf at Auto Parts, Nicer ones with a clear plastic case covering them available online. Some use a circuit breaker, often mounted in the cab for convenience. That’s dangerous. Needs fusing at the battery. I think a circuit breaker is OK. I read somewhere only fuse is really safe. I don’t know. I do know my battery connection was smoking when my last 1500w shorted out. Only lasted a week. Never blew the 150a fuse., Maybe a lesser rated fuse is ideal. No idea. Just going by the suggestions from the so called experts that can’t seem to agree on anything. Lol. Definitely don’t want a fire. It’s a very real possibility if hooked up with inadequate cables and fuses.

If your truck isn't running a 24 volt electrical system, don't install a 24 volt inverter.

If your posted information is understood, the inverter is working. You can use the other items listed, with no problems. It is only when trying to use the microwave that it shuts down the inverter.
What brand inverter are you using? What condition are the batteries in the truck. Are the cable connections clean and tight?
If you are using an extension cord, it needs to be as short as possible, with 3 pin plugs.
Depending on the brand, it can take up to 3 times the rated running watts to start a microwave. A 700 watt unit would have a total running watts around 900.Numb Thanks this. -
It’s a Jupiter inverter from Harbor Freight. I’m using a pure sine wave inverter. I am not using an extension cord. It’s plugged up not the cabs outlets and what I think is another breaker. I don’t know what condition the batteries are in. I am a company driver and a newbie at that.
Although, I think I may have solved my problem. Make sure the truck’s AC is not on. -
