I have a 3000w continuous 6000w peak pure sine power inverter. I have a 700w microwave. Every time I turn on the microwave it trips immediately. I have tried 3 different 700w microwaves thinking it was an issue with the microwave. I try to run it with the truck running and nothing else plugged in. I have run a 1100w burner(turned on high), 32” TV, Xbox, and a fridge all at the same time with no issues. It was installed by someone at my company’s garage. He used bigger gauge wires than what came with the inverter because he said what they give you aren’t big enough. I would appreciate any info someone could give. EDIT: It is a 12v inverter. Could that be the cause? Do I need a 24v inverter?

Has the person at the garage done an inverter install on other trucks? I doubt that anything could be connected wrong but I would still check: 1) is the red cable (+) at the battery connected to the (+) terminal on the inverter. Same with the negative, is the (-) terminal at the battery connected to the (-) terminal on the inverter. Are the connections tight? 2) the connections only need to be to one battery. If they are not you could try the microwave after both cables are attached to the same battery 3) you could try a surge protector. However, as the article states not all inverters are compatible with a surge protector. 3) So the person who installed it knows better than the engineers who designed the inverter and supplied the cables? And the liability that goes along with it. If they supplied too small cables and it caused a fire then there would be massive liability. " He said that what they give you aren't big enough." If nothing else works you could try the original cables.
Not much to an install regarding any wiring/connections. 2 cables from the battery to the inverter.

Make sure there’s a fuse or breaker on positive at the battery connection. I know very little about it. Recently installed my own 2000w. Lot of different info on the installation. Seems that a fuse rated at 10% ( for lack of better term and memory sake) is the proper size. So 200 amp maxi fuse for a 2000w inverter. 300 amp fuse for a 3000w inverter. Different styles fuses available. Cheap off the shelf at Auto Parts, Nicer ones with a clear plastic case covering them available online. Some use a circuit breaker, often mounted in the cab for convenience. That’s dangerous. Needs fusing at the battery. I think a circuit breaker is OK. I read somewhere only fuse is really safe. I don’t know. I do know my battery connection was smoking when my last 1500w shorted out. Only lasted a week. Never blew the 150a fuse., Maybe a lesser rated fuse is ideal. No idea. Just going by the suggestions from the so called experts that can’t seem to agree on anything. Lol. Definitely don’t want a fire. It’s a very real possibility if hooked up with inadequate cables and fuses.

If your truck isn't running a 24 volt electrical system, don't install a 24 volt inverter.

One other thing to check would be the circuit breaker that was installed. Did it come with the inverter or was it purchased separately? Maybe it is not rated for your system. What did the instructions that came with the inverter say? RTFM read the f'in manual. If there is a number or email contact the manufacturer and tell them the issue you are having. Listen to what they say and then tell/ask about the larger gauge cable used.

If your posted information is understood, the inverter is working. You can use the other items listed, with no problems. It is only when trying to use the microwave that it shuts down the inverter.
What brand inverter are you using? What condition are the batteries in the truck. Are the cable connections clean and tight?

If you are using an extension cord, it needs to be as short as possible, with 3 pin plugs.
Depending on the brand, it can take up to 3 times the rated running watts to start a microwave. A 700 watt unit would have a total running watts around 900.

It’s a Jupiter inverter from Harbor Freight. I’m using a pure sine wave inverter. I am not using an extension cord. It’s plugged up not the cabs outlets and what I think is another breaker. I don’t know what condition the batteries are in. I am a company driver and a newbie at that.

Although, I think I may have solved my problem. Make sure the truck’s AC is not on.

How exactly does it cut off? Does it beep at you or just cut out? Microwaves have a high start load, but if you're using the same model and just different microwaves then maybe it's the model being unusually crap. Does it run the microwave for a second or for a longer few seconds?
