Ahh okay. I'll have our shop check it when I go in for my PM. The inverter is installed inside some kind of metal box in the sidebox, I have no idea how I'd even go about getting in there to check anything. And we're not supposed to do that anyways. I'm sure the shop can take a look... at least I hope they can.

I have a 700 watt microwave, and do does a friend of mine...neither of us have had any trouble with the new trucks (both 2013's)...they run the microwaves just fine.

Yeah, it's gotta be an issue with my truck. Which wouldn't surprise me... I have the worst luck when it comes to breakdowns. This truck has been in the shop 12 times since I've had it (got it in June 2012). Things in here have never worked quite right, like the APU. So, my luck continues... hell, even when the truck is running right, something goes crazy with the trailer, like the fuel filter exploding and dumping 30+ gallons of fuel into a Pilot parking lot. They loved that. It was a great day, worked my ### off and drove all of 67 miles LOL.

That's cool. If they are going to start putting them in factory they need to go with 2500 watts. If it's not a modified sine wave inverter it isn't worth a flip as it doesn't replicate 60 Hz like standard household current. Plug a clock in it and see if it keeps time.

I'd say you are pushing the limit then with 750 watts. (times 2 is 1500). Like you said about twice the wattage is barely enough for the start up capacitor.

You might get by with these two...

If you come thru east TN holler and I'll give you my old 700 watt GE.

And you might want to try the microwave with the truck idling and see what it does, I think that is the way husband had to do with the volvo he had when I was cooking. Not sure with his international at old company.

Definitely idle the truck. I have a 900 watt microwave I use with a 1500 watt inverter. Never had a problem.

Sound advice. Also, it's possible your APU batteries are bad. My truck is a 2012 with only 150k, but during my last PM they changed the APU batteries. ( Which was awesome because I didn't even mention it, they found and fixed it on their own). Works like a dream now.

As said run truck when using it and unless you have a refrigerator, turn off inverter when driving.

I always run the truck when using the microwave, I assumed it would flatten the APU batteries pretty quickly otherwise.

I'll have the shop check my batteries when I go in, hopefully tonight. It just might be the batteries, since my APU doesn't always work properly either.
