You are correct driver he doesnt have to justify anything to anyone. He can buy a brand new Xhood pete cut it into little pieces and put it back together with super glue if he wants. I would love to hear the WHY of it all though. Maybe I should have said I would love to hear the reasons for doing this as opposed to just buying a flat top. You just gave me some reasons and now I know. Have a great day

First I would like to say to RGRTim that I am very sorry I did not mean to offend or upset you(or anyone else) I was just trying to say that it's his truck he can do anything he want without approval from you or me either one. Again I'm sorry. When my brother in law and I did it, it was because his 9 year old home every other night dedicated auto parts gig literally disappeared over night when the economy tanked and all the auto makers went bankrupt/bailed out. After 30 days of waiting for some kind of recovery he decided to join me in the tanking world. But his freshly rebuilt Classic XL Condo would not fit under the loading racks, so we chopped the top. We put a XT mid-roof on it. At that time the way the economy was it didn't seem like a good idea to spend $45-$50,000.00 to "just buy a flat top" to keep from spending $5,500.00 to convert the one that he just had rebuilt.

That helps got kind of the same thing going on switching from van to hopper and makes more sense to change a known truck to a mid roof than roll the dice with a different truck

We are good driver, like I said I probly should have just asked why as opposed to justify. When I read the op I immediately started doing math in my head, cost of conversion, down time etc etc and the math wasnt adding up. Personally I would get on the boards, call brokers/shippers whatever I had to do to keep the truck rolling before I would go this route. To each his own. I wish all concerned the best of luck in wahtever they do.

If you do change roof. I am interested in cost. I have a high rise and would like to convert to a midroof. I know this truck and all the money put into it and repairs done. I keep truck up with all maintenance. Buy a different truck and I have a monthly payment I don't want.

Wow, lots of negative here. Its his truck. Let him do as he wants.

There is a company in Forth Worth,Tx called Weldon that does these conversions.

I see many reasons to convert condo to flat top. Fuel mileage, better for driving in windy conditions, height clearance, weight, and etc.

I have a Century condo and have been looking into a mid roof swap. Dont want to buy another truck.
Mine is an 07 and I cant tell if the cap is bolted on or what. I see a seam. If its as simple as removing the interior and unbolting the cap, then it should be simple.

I wouldn't think it would be that huge of a conversion, really. Not as easy as if you had a KW or Pete, but, it seems to me like it would be fairly straightforward.

Actually with a fld it isn't that hard it is just the cost of the roof last time I checked it was about 2500.00 other then that it is a lot of time drilling out rivets

and there are a lot of justifications to get rid of that super high roof for me it does absolutely no good and cost me a few loads when I cannot get it under a rack

Did anyone end up attempting this? Have a spare cab xt mid roof trying to swap over onto my condo. Rivits and bolts are out how do you remove it without damaging it from the front of the windshield area and break the glue?
