I was given the 75-822 as a gift from my son. I haven't used a CB since 1976. However, I do like the idea of a very mobile CB. The way it is set up I believe I could use it as a handheld walking about (short range)...add a magnet roof mount (little better range) and hook it to a base antenna (for greater range). Before I spend any money on this unit is it possible to do the things I mentioned. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks

You could use that radio as you have suggested. From the pictures on midlands site you would need a BNC to SO 239 adapter to connect to the PL 259 connectors found on most pre assembled coax cables. A power supply would be needed as battery's get expensive quick, you would need that anyway if you were using a regular mobile as a base. Filtering may be less selective than a regular mobile or base. Be gentle with your BNC connector as they may break the connection inside the radio if strained.

Appreciate your reply. It comes with an adapter to replace the batteries. It has a 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter and a PL 259 connector. When using for a base, I have a 120ac adapter that will accept the 12 volt lighter adapter. All I would need (if loss of power) is a 12 volt battery like those trolling motor batteries.

I am not sure what you mean by 'filtering'.

By filtering I mean in the signal processing it may accept more interference, and have less noise blanking capability.

I just ordered one of these off eBay mostly just to have a voice from somewhere when im in my little 4-wheeler in Atlanta traffic. Im not expecting much transmit range. I have other radios but in my little 30-mpg car, space is limited. Theres a guy on Youtube who claims he cranked the power up to 5+ watts dk and 10 watts swing, but im skeptical

Yes it would work fine as you mentioned. I have a couple, and they work great connected to a decent antenna.
