Saw a guy at a gravel pit once with a load of stone in a hopper bottom. He had to drive back and forth over the stuff coming out to unload. Looked like a PITA.

Depends on what you haul. The guy I run for has a few hoppers on a dedicated deal and they do pretty good.

i mostly just pull a hopper during spring season, i used to haul a lot of road salt in the winter with a hopper but rates arn't what they should be and for some reason driving threw a salt mine with my truck isn't to appealing to me...lol im normally still tied up with construction work during fall harvest. hoppers can be kinda hit and miss. but if you can do it when its good and do something else when its not its not a bad deal.

So, is it safe to say Hoppers don't have work year round? It's just a seasonal thing.

oh there is certainly year round work for hoppers. i could easily keep the hopper loaded year round. its just its hard to get good rates year round.

Depends on what you want to do and where you want to go. A lot of companies out there that are hopper only and stay busy all year long.
