I sat at East St. Louis for the wend and found out fom a Millis driver fueling up beside me that he had just picked up a lad going to Shelby IA that had been there all weekend that he had been telling dispatch he could not delive it on time. I know this is supposed to be a first come first serve dispatch but things like that prove to me it isn't.
I had a great experience in school and training but since I have come out on my own, not so much and it isn't the driving or the loads that are the problem. I don't think I ave asked for much but t is never acceptable to be out for 7 days and have less than 1700 miles...and I have had it twice in 3 weeks.
if the loads are not there, why do they keep hiring? It's not good for either existing or new drivers to just sit. All it does it make it hard on everyone.

Couple things to understand -
1. E. St. Louis yard is loads that either have too much time on them and/or it's going to a place (ie. Shelby) that its' hard for them to get you a load out.
2. If you (drop) somewhere and dont actually deliver your load - no matter what time you "hit ready" anyone that actually delivered their load and is there also, will get a load before you. I had to find that out the hard way several years ago.
- If youre not getting more than 2k in miles a week - there is something wrong, especially if you are recently solo. Could be a multitude of issues.....Dispatcher, service faults, HOS etc. I sat in Ft Worth for 63 hrs with no load available. Yes it sucked - but its very rare for that to happen. Actually first time it was that long in 3+ years Ive been out here. However I did get layover pay for 2 days so that made it better.
Not sure who your dispatcher is - but I would start there. -
Customer Service keeps banker hours. If they haven't book the appts. they won't dispatch them. Sucks have had the same thing in the past, sat for a day and a half and got a load that had been sitting at the terminal for 4 days.

You may have gotten stuck in a crap-tastic freight lane, but I know south is starting to pick up a lot. Without knowing your dispatcher I am with Baritone and would start there. Send a nice message saying you need to stretch the legs on the truck, see if that helps, if not ask to move a different board.

3030 and 3100 the past two weeks, got home a day and half late for home time, so stayed home a day late. This week is not gonna be good by any stretch with leaving on thursday.

Finished with 3312. A lot of east coast for the week

Not sure about you guys, but when I tried to sync my schedule to my dispatcher I saw a jump in miles. What I mean is for the most part I'm rolling while my dispatcher is there and delivering before he leaves when possible. Doesn't always work like that, but in my experience you're better off avoiding weekend/night dispatch. Not because they aren't good at what they do, but because your dispatcher knows how you like to run.

Not sure how it works with otr drivers but regionally my dispatcher leaves my next move/run there for night or weekend dispatch to have

That's how I do it jlccaa my dispatcher starts at 6am, 6:15 I hit ready for dispatch 8 out 10 times I get a load within the hour, knock on wood I haven't sat long periods waiting on loads

I do touch base with my dispatcher about miles....1st week afterwards was great, next 2 made up for it. I have no flags on me, clean record, no service faults, hos were fresh. I even called and spoke with J about miles...basically I was told to shut up I was getting plenty of miles. As I see it, Millis may not have a place for me.
