I never understood the "pay goes up miles go down" I would hear at Millis. Milis has to run freight...can't imagine them having to figure out who makes more or less all day long so they could do what they are in business for. I kept to myself never put much into what others said...did my own thing really. Never had a problem with miles, was solo a little over 27 months there and did 308K miles. Took all my vacation time (5 weeks) and another week off when my son was born. Got home when I wanted to in the beginning (4-6 weeks) then every other week towards the end.
To do the miles you have to dedicate yourself to making it happen...basically learn the system, patterns and then take advantage of it.
To expect them (Millis) to make it happen for you and you not apply yourself is unreasonable.
I never cared how many miles the load was or where it went or when it went there...I ran it without complaint.

That's what I hear but I don't see it in action. I and just about everyone in my class from 2013 that are left are counting down the days till our year is up. I have ran as hard as I could and then get the dreaded "no load available" message time and time...sit for days waiting to get a load and then not get paid layover. I realize that dispatchers have their favorite drivers but you guys that come on here bragging about 4000 miles in a week while the rest of us starve is ######## and shows me Millis's first come first serve dispatch is ########, especially when the same ones keep getting preplaned. Once my year is up, I am gone and not looking back...until then I'll do my time and count the days. My family depends on my income as much as yours does and I take it pretty god ###### personal when my family suffers from some prick in an office playing God.

A big part of it is your dispatcher. A couple know what they're doing and bust their ### and their drivers are the ones preplanned. Then there are the others who don't communicate with drivers and act like doing their job is a bother to them. It sucks but there is a big part of the problem with mileage consistency.
MTownZ Thanks this. -
3 days after taking a load I had no chance to deliver on time after another driver turned it down and I tried to get it there...I got punished for it.
Twice in Texas, delivered on the weekend once and between Christmas and New Years after my dispatcher told me I had to come out since I didn't ask for this time off in time. Obviously not enough freight to run but I got to sit for a day and a half each time and missed hometime by a day both times. Lucky me.
I am never told what I am doing after I get unloaded until I am done, there is no communication link coming my direction and then I get yelled at and hung up on if I don't reply immediately. From now on, he can leave a message. -
Who is your dispatcher?

And to really show you how it all started...I tested out on a Thursday, had been out a month with my trainer to finish up. Talked to my dispatcher who assigned me a truck and told me to come out Monday and send a ready for dispatch when I got settled. I got to the yard on Monday and someone was loading their #### into my truck. Went to the instructor and asked him what was going on and he said looks like someone just took you out of that truck about an hour ago...you need to call your dispatcher. So, I called, and the ####### said he didn't know, he thought I had quit...wtf?? So, that's how my driving career with Millis started and it's never really taken off. I honestly feel there is not and has not been a spot for me here...and there will be students in the same boat soon enough. Rally boys...there's a naysayer in the crowd.
