Miles

Listen to him.I'll say this with respect.You have no clue what circumstances led to late loads.Could have been brk down issues,not enough window time ect ect.Being late rarely is not going to lower your miles week after week.The point is this is just another company with low miles.My guess would be too many drivers not enough freight.You like to dramatize things don't you?(Your rep is trashed).Not even close in this case I would say.

 

I agree with you about the late load circumstances. But I'd like to mention that drivers need to stop thinking in terms of Miles and start thinking in terms of Money. Miles don't pay my bills, Money does. Stop letting these companies sell you on Miles. Tell them in the interview that Miles are not important to you, Money is.

 

If the pay by they mile, that is certainly a part of the money equation. A company can pay $5 mile, but of you are only driving 20 miles a week, that is still only $100.

Have to look for a balance.

 

Which is why often overlooked accessorial pay is equally important to mileage. If you have to sit a day, you should be making more than some crap like $20-$50.

 

Weather delay/breakdown ... don't fall in the late category ... there's nothing to do about those ... when I hear late, I see that as something that potentially was within the drivers control ... overslept, mismanaged hours, too many [personal stops, failure to communicate issues timely ... etc.
