Any drivers out there know anything about the “Military Apprentice Programs?” So far it just seems like a way to burn through your G.I bill to make a bigger paycheck...after checking “Schneider,USexpress,Roehl” that’s the conclusion I’ve come up with......does anyone know anything different?

You will have to consider the cost of college being grotesque and unreasonable versus potential gains from same. The colleges have become bloated on the 1.4 trillion owed by 44 million students (We paid off 46000 clear over 10 years, for a failed 4 year degree, not worth the paper it's on and a partial two year for me which learned me a few things, but taught me what not to do and I got out before I got really stupid in debt) we sold our house to pay that bill. Which is really a step down from where we were with it. So you can imagine why our view of college is more of a predatory group of parasites than anything else. And many of the students who owe the money cannot get free. (And will not, they will lose social security until the bill is paid, that will be years in some cases)

Spouse was a vet, GI bill pitched in for part of her schooling both trucking and college. However the portion we owed was quite a bit. 36000 for her and 10,000 for me in total when its all said and done at 8%. (It was 4, but they kept increasing it.) Arkansas actually paid 18 months worth of my college until I told them I'll take on the rest because I dont know how much more I will stay in college at that time. (Workforce rehabilitation) they wrote me off after I became blind in 2009 which was a really important year.

Trucking is not a career. It is a life journey that only a small percentage of a population of a country can do well. Provided they carefully manage the expenses, build savings on every load, no matter how small, and are able to endure the feast and famine of a pay system dating to the 1938 year with no overtime pay. (Specifically excluded with a 70 hour week imposed on workers in the industry to boot back that year) who in their right mind will run twice the hours of a full timer with half the income on a good week? Or nothing at all on a really bad one.

Subject to be fired for rubbing a pole or scratching your equiptment at any time?

Thank you for the reply sir, I used some of my G.I bill to pay for my CDL-A
School already. I have 10years overall in the military and I’m going to ride out the other 10 in the Reserves. I always wanted to drive a truck just never tuck the leap.

To answer your question. I am currently doing the Roehl Honors program. Roehls progran allows your to draw compensation for up to 24 months or the remaining portion you have available. There are online modules you must complete and after one year you go to training foundations. At the completion they will pay your way to get certified to instruct through DOT. I am doing the GYCDL through them and then are the ONLY company I personally found that offers 24 months vs 12 like everyone else.

it basically let you withdraw your BAH thru your GI Bill and consider that as an extra pay but if you want to save it for something else if trucking doesnt work out for you then do it

You are losing thousands that could be going to tuition while still collecting BAH. I would only use that benefit if it gets me skills or knowledge that I wouldn't be able to get.

    Waynesan76 and Omega7777 Thank this.

Schneider Bulk (tankers) has the Military Apprenticeship Program. Good paychecks in tankers.
Jim Palmer Trucking also has Military Apprenticeship program.

My GI bill paid for my BS is business administration, including books, supplies and housing, and I paid cash for trucking school.

    Always have a backup plan...
