Same here!!
US Navy from 1978 to 1980. Does anybody remember that great rust attack of 1979/1980? You're welcome!! That was me on the front line pounding the holy crap out of the gunnel rails with a chain. -
I'd like to see that. Do you have photos or a video?Pickleball Thanks this.

Yeah, what ever happened to that in a non-military application? With a few exceptions, you couldn't have a better reference than Uncle Sam. Thing is, being used to the military, you may be disappointed at the lack of discipline that's out there today. I don't know, maybe you want to get away from that, and trucking will work for you. I too want to thank you for your service.
TurkeyCreekJackJohnson and ducnut Thank this. -
Years ago in some situations, an employer could get some tax breaks or other set-asides for hiring a Veteran. I honestly don't know if this is still a thing. Unless your military time was being a Truck Driver and can be verified (sorry can't remember the MOS and AFSCs for these occupations) that DD214 is basically useless when it comes to this job. I hate to sound cynical, but these employers today don't give a (redacted) if you served or not! 25+ years ago, maybe, but not today!
Lav-25 and TurkeyCreekJackJohnson Thank this. -
This is the real reason in my opinion, yes there are ancillary motivations perhaps but if a company is going to save a lot of money by virtue of employing a veteran they'll do it over a non-veteran.Concorde Thanks this.

This ARTICLE might better explain why those veteran questions are on those applications.

May I suggest UPS? They are as close to military as you are going to get.
