I am 35. I was discharged from the military at age 22 with a OTH. This was 13 years ago. On the Application they ask "were you ever in the Military". I answered yes. Do you have your DD214? I answered No. Will they ask about this during the interview at orientation? Does it come up in the background check? Should I disclose this to my recruiter, seeing as it is over 10 years old? The last thing I want is to be kicked from training. During my talks with my recruiter he has not once asked about my military history. At this point I am kinda afraid to bring it up and screw myself.
Military history - leaving for training in ~3 weeks.

I always left military service questions blank. One time a terminal manager somehow found out I served in the military and asked to see my DD-214 and I later discovered he had no right to do that. He was a little hostile toward me after that because I'm a Vietnam vet and he isn't; he went to Germany instead, but so what, he did his time.
Don't bring it up; never volunteer any information about anything.Last edited: Jan 30, 2019

I was afraid to leave it blank, and then have it come up during the background check.

Who are you going with? I also have a similar discharge 7yrs ago and don't want it to be an issue .

Prime. I am thinking of just phoning in anonymously and asking a recruiter. Nothing to loose that way. Just ask if they need a dd214, or even go into specifics. At that point they do not know who you are.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Good idea, let me know what you find. Looking at going with them as well.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
I called today and talked to a recruiter. I asked if you needed the dd214. I was told you only need it if you served within the last 3 years. So I would say you are in the clear.
Chinatown and Southern_Geargrinder Thank this. -
Jim Palmer had me send my DD 214 over, they were really thorough looking through my references. I thought I had to give it to them.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
They can go back as far as they want to, but 3 years is all that's required.
