I start Millington on April the 4th. My information packet and my recruiter told me to get my cdl permit and dot physcial. You cant get a cdl permit without a dot medical card. But If I have to take another one I will. I got a clean bill of health with my MD and a 2 yr card. I also have a Letter from My doctor stating there is no reason I cant drive. I do take medications for mild bipolar, but no narcotics. And my condition is not severe. So I believe that is all I need. So get your physical, and permit before you go to Millington.

below 140/90 to get 2 year dot med card
Rotten Thanks this. -
Just an fyi, in tennessee in order to get your cdl permit you have to get a DOT certificate just to take the test. Dont know about flordia, but my recuiter told me that I have to have my permit before I go to millington. From what I understand so far, is that your required to do the online course and have a passing grade of 80% and training will consist of driver training, logs, paperwork etc...Also you have to take Swifts physical on day one with drug test and all that. If you live in another state, you will go to your terminal in your state to take the road test. Also if you are on any meds, make sure whatever it is you have a letter from your doctor stating if wont effect your ability to drive. If your on bp meds, It wont disqualify you if under control. But in my opinion, I would go to your doctor and get the dot anyway in your state, just to be sure your physically ok. Also talk to your recruiter about the meds, she can tell you if you need a release from your dr. Hope this helps, I start millington on the 11th.

So after I took the the precourse, read the book and went down to get my permit and passed my test. They could not even give me a temp permit. I didn't have a certified birth certificate. It also seems that there is a person in Pa that has the same first name as my middle, same last name AND same birthdate as mine has a suspended license. I lived in Pa for a short time in the late 90's but have been in Florida since and have a perfect record like I did when I lived in PA. Now I have to spend $20 dollars for a certified DL history and a letter stating that I have a clean record. At least it happened here and not at school and I have time to fix it! You don't have to have your physical in Florida to get your permit, you just have to pass the vision test.

I can relate to the same name story. Several years ago my wife and I started getting nasty letters, about our foreclosure. We thought we had been the victims of identity theft. Although, I could not understand why someone would have gone to all that trouble, and not picked a better target. Turns out the man had the same first and last name as I did, and his wife and mine shared the same first name. The girl's birthdays were even close. Small world, Huh? -
Yea...since they went to computers for everything if you are even close in the state of Florida they are going to ding you and make you prove it isn't you. I checked my credit report one time and some guy in Palm Gardens with the same name defaulted to AT&T on his cell phone and even though I lived over 100 miles away and was using Sprint at the time, AT&T put it on my credit. I am still trying to fix it.
