Truck is in the shop in Cartersville. Wheel bearing failed and ruined the seal. Brakes started to catch the oil on fire on my way to Smyrna. Caught it before it was to bad and had the load relayed to get delivered. The white stuff is from the fire extinguisher. Talk about a hot load! I'm headed home for the weekend.

Did the bearing fail before the seal? usually the other way around bearings fail do to lack of hub oil and what oil is left burns when bearing fails. Just curious if the bearing actually failed first in this case?

I'm not sure which failed first but there was plenty of oil in the hub. The outer hub seal, the one visible during pretrip, never leaked. It was the inner, axle seal that failed. The shop said the bearings typically fail first and then cause the leak. Not sure about that one. If they are servicing the bearings properly they shouldn't fail like this.

Here are a couple of pics of it being worked of before I left. Went to lunch and the shop was locked up tight when I came back. I guess nothing else is being done to it till Monday.

    Hi y'all,

I have noticed that there are an awful lot of trainees on the Millis threads, and the experienced driver stuff is few and far between.

I've been driving since 2003, 100% clean record. I'm currently living near Janesville, Wisconsin and running about 5 states for a small regional company. I like the boss, but equipment isn't exactly the best, they like to squeeze a few "extra" hours out of you if they are in a pinch, and I'm paying over $150 per week in family insurance for just my daughter, wife, and me. The deductible is $3,500 per person, or $7,000 for the family, and it was my only option.

So, while liking the boss is nice, I am quite sure I could be taking home $200 more dollars per month in insurance savings someplace else, and with experience and a good record, I believe I should be able to make a good paycheck as well.

So, I'm looking for experienced drivers to give me a run-down on miles/money per week, and if you have specific info on regional or dedicated stuff that may run out of my area and what sort of pay to expect from that, it would be fantastic. And, do the regional guys get home on weekends, or you just run through the house when you are close, or what?

Any other advice or info would be appreciated as well.

One other thing...at some point in a year or two, I may be moving to Alabama. I lived north of Bham for 12 years and liked it, and my wife and I have a lot of friends down there. How likely is it that Millis is okay with a transfer like that, and do they run regional stuff in that area?

    Thanks!

fatdog I worked for millis for over 6 and a half years and they are a good company to work for only reason I left was I needed to be home more. As far as the insurance I dont know what there family insurance cost but for just me it was 50 dollars a week. As far as the move to Alabama they would have no problem with that as they run through that area all the time with beer and paper.

Spanky summed it up well. Not sure what additional information you might need - but let us know.

FYI - I pay about 80 a week for family coverage. Deductibles are high also. Not the best in my opinion. But never had a problem getting anything covered with them thus far.

Thanks guys. I'd be interested to know how many miles experienced guys are getting, and what your average weekly gross is, especially for regional guys, but any answers are appreciated.

Holy crap Batman, that's a lot! I paid $87 a week for family coverage, $3k deductible. Though the dental was good I had problems with the health insurance. Our regular doctors never heard of it and wouldn't accept it. Called around to other doctors and ran into the same problem. I dropped it after two months and got insurance through my wife's employer.

Can't answer for the regional guys. Myself I hit anywhere from 2700-3200 average, up and down. I hope this helps.
