I applied to Millis and was excited about starting class until I found out that you are not paid for the 3 weeks of training. You are paid once you go out with an experienced driver on the road. For people that are coming from little to nothing how can someone go through training all week for 3 weeks with no income?

Training to get your cdl before you go out on the road. You don't receive a dime until after the 3 weeks of cdl training and are assigned an experienced driver. So for many of us that have bills and obviously won't be able to work a job while going through training that is a big whole in the wallet to burn. Plus you have to pay 500 bucks up front plus 100 to reserve your spot in class. You go through hell before you get to graceland. I know Millis is the company to go to but dang that sucks. Unfortunately all company sponsored training companies work like this.

A lot of people receive unemployment while in training. You are not actually an employee until the last day of orientation.

I heard a myth about MILLIS trucks pulling Shaw trailers but never seen it till I picked up this one today. I also heard a rumor that we can pull them because MILLIS now has an exclusive contract with Shaw which would explain why I no longer see any other company's trailers at shaw plants.

Like I said this is just a rumor.

Some places may advertise free training but look closer and they want you to sign a two year contract! MILLIS asks for one year and considering the percentage that don't finish or quit within that year I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for $600.

What would be a fair estimate of miles you guys are getting? And how long after the 1st yr dose it take to get better pay?
