Good luck steelredfish. I hope you can get hired and enjoy a long, successful career with Millis. From everything I've read on here, they sound like a great company.

Here are some questions to keep things rolling here. What percentage of your loads do you have to unload by hand? For the ones you do unload yourself, does Millis pay you any extra for it? Finally, if you do have a lot of loads that need to be unloaded, are lumpers usually available? What do you think of hiring them?

Most is "no-touch" freight, a lot of drop n hooks. I have yet to unload a trailer in the 6 1/2 months out here. If a lumper is required they will tell you on the notes of the load when you're dispatched. When a lumper is required you will get a PO # through your QC to give to the lumper service.

I'm sure one of the veteran drivers can add more to this.

    Zangief Thanks this.

If you have a driver unload or driver assist they will pay you extra it depends on the customer as to how much. Some only 25 dollars to assist up to 120.00 dollars to do the unload yourself. Most places have a lumper service that you can hire. If you do you have to hire a lumper check with dispatch then they will send you a express code for you to give the lumper service and a com check to pay them.

Bear63 and spanky, thanks for the replies. Drop and hooks are nice I bet, because you don't have to sit for hours waiting to be unloaded.

I guess I'm probably getting ahead of myself since I haven't even been hired yet, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to make the cut.

I unloaded one truck because it was styrofoam cups so real light. My way of thinking since is that my on duty time pays better on the drive line so I hire a lumper to save time. Sometimes you don't have a choice anyway.
