    Hey all have a question.

Are there any drivers that currently do per diem pay and if so, how well does it work out?

I am on per diem. The 3 weeks of vaca was great. I still was able to claim 6k of per diem on taxes, between what i could claim and what they with held. The safety bonuses are nice also. Do i got no issues.

Per diem works great for the company, l do my own per diem at tax time, do the math on the vacation pay, bonus pay vs.straight pay and tell me your better off

heres the thing it depends on your age if your older and have maxed out on social security then go with perdiem however if your younger I would recommend straight pay it perdien directly effect your ss and disabilitie should you ever have to go on it

Do you per diem guys end up paying in at tax time? Is that the practical difference tax-wise?

From what I'm gathering, per diem looks like a better deal overall. Probably saves Millis a boatload on SS & Medicare, and in turn they offer some nice perks for taking it.

Being self-employed, I always planned to end up paying in at tax time rather than letting DC use my money for free anyway...

Do you realize you're getting 5 cents less per mile on per diem? That's roughly about 7 grand per year.

3 cent less if you count the extra 2 cent per mile on the safety bonus to start. So 3600 less on a 120k year. I will take the extra vaca time. The lower taxable wages don't matter all that much, if you need a loan or a mortgage you can still have your per diem added into your wages for the loan purpose. It does save millis money I know that, but it doesn't affect me all that much so it doesn't bother me.

Thanks for all the responses about per diem. I am totally new to trucking so I just want to make an educated decision (wish me luck lol).
